Getting my R4 back on the road ... few questions

After I had picked up my car in 2009 it became soon apparent that the car hat been maintained constantly by the original owner, but the usual rust traps were present. I changed the chassis for a zinc coated and sealed one, but the body shell and doors proved to be rotten as well - certainly not...

Car from the year you were born

Well, I'd have chosen the Renault 17, but that was only launched in '71, two years too late ... so I'd say ... Renault 16 :)

All is well ... looks like you have to screw down the steering wheel to disengage the lock ...

    R5 super steering wheel lock

Seems I messed up big time ... I took off the steering wheel without the key in the ignition ... either the lock was engaged when I removed the wheel or it clicked into position when I wiggled the wheel off ... anyhow, if I put on either the old or another steering wheel, I don't get to turn...

    Zenith 32IF in R4GTL

uaz04 ... look for the "Hennessey hot up kit" on this site ... the thing about the Zenith 32IF as far as I understand it is this: It was used for the 849cm3 R4 as well as the 1100cm3 R5 using different jets. You would need one from a R5 (or change the jets) plus some bits and bobs to mount it...

The best way to protect your R4 while you a in Africa

Not nearly as effective, but twice as cute ... seen on last year's Rappel! Quatrelle R4 meet in Germany. It's also watching over my James on the right :) Kudos to the guy who made it!

Looking for somebody to give a lift ...

... to a boat anchor of a vintage PC http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=299 The PC is located in Tonnay-Charente near La Rochelle, and I'm not :) If somebody is travelling across France to somewhere near the Swiss/German border and has a Little room to spare, please contact...

    Femsa dizzy

Patrick, I had my 1-2-3 fitted last week, and it's an absolute joy to drive since. Probably the issues that have been remedied by the exchange were due to a wonky electrical setup that any good dizzy would have cured, but you'd need to get one first. So ... I got the 1-2-3, Bosch blue coil and...

    Femsa dizzy

Patrick, next Thursday I'll have my 1-2-3 unit fitted to my GTL, replacing a Ducellier. As a lot of people here have been advocating to replace the Femsa units with Ducelliers, I don't see why it shouldn't fit your car if it is a GTL (1.1l) too. You can look up the motorcodes the 1-2-3 is...

Has the R4 Sallon and the R4 Van the same chassis ?

Andy, you need to have a look at the type of the van. The R4F4 has the "shorter" chassis of the saloon, the R4F6 has a longer chassis, your saloon body will not fit it. It would probably be easier to transplant the engine from the van over to the saloon. Robert

    Renault 5 Gtx on eBay

The German R5 scene is touting Renault-derived Volvo 1.8 and 2.0l engines, e.g. from the 480 as drop-in replacements.

    Winter is a-coming in ...

Sorry, haven't checked here for a while ... yes, it is a 1989 1.4 TR, already with a catalytic converter, so it's 58HP instead of 60 ... it's as nimble as I remember these cars to be. Both sides have some rust under the doors, but I got the side members, and they're currently being welded in...

    Solex 32 SEIA or DIS?

Azazello, could you please check the sizes of the various jets and pipes of the 32SEIA carb? It would be interesting for me to compare against the (decidedly sluggish and thirsty) example that came standard on my '78 GTL Thanks Robert

Looking for a "Nice" dumpster ...

Hello Team, still looking for a good place to visit in the Nice region ... no ideas? There are still quite some R4's around in that region, Limousines, Fourgonettes and even what looks like a JP4 (shortened open car, dunno if the name is correct). Robert

    S u carb

Until someone more knowledgeable chimes in: The "small" engines turn in the opposite direction of the 1100cm³ ones, so the gearboxes are not directly exchangeable. If you've adapted the gearbox to drive the car correctly, maybe the speedo connection would have to be changed as well inside...
