    Rodeo Recommissioning

I agree with Angel, I have seen much worse ring gears especially on very early R4s with the pull to engage starters.* It’s possible that the solenoid might be sticking and not throwing in far enough. Obviously a new starter should solve all those issues. early R4s were 6v and had a “crash”...

What have we done this time (R4 F4)

What a fantastic story Petak. I love the colour. It’s great that you have found your dream. I look forward to your usual high standards when it’s time to repair the fourgonette.

    The "Mucca" disassembling and restoration

I suggest that you keep your 3D printer files for your future use. Also, you may be able to replicate parts for others at a profit to yourself.

    Renault 4 F4/F6 rear windows

Sorry Petak, I missed your request until today. The glass is wrapped up, but the opening measures Width 1010mm Height 348mm Hopefully this helps you out. I look forward to seeing the progress on your fourgonette. Keep us posted as always. ps if you need the glass measurements precisely...

    Renault 4 F4/F6 rear windows

Hi Petak, I can’t help much from the other side of the world. So it’s probably a little bit rude to reply. The photo appears to me to have a central divider/vertical strip. Is this correct? They appear to be sliding because of a little overlap. Is a two piece window what you are looking for in...

Drilling holes in footwells - to give water somewhere else to go.

I know of people who drill holes in the left footwell of the 2CV. (RHD, because of the camber of the road). It’s not something I have done myself. I can understand the desire to do something/anything , because rectification is costly. Fibreglass just doesn’t work.

    Rotate engine without jacking up?

Just make sure that you don’t make a fine adjustment to the timing by turning the road wheel back in the other direction. It will pick up the slack in the timing chain and won’t be accurate.

SOLEX 32 DIS for R4 GTL (not original)

The common options for more power are CCCC. Capacity Camshaft Compression Carburettor Without dismantling the engine there is only one option. The carburettor. So go with a new carburettor by all means. No leaks is a huge benefit to smooth running. Renault strangled the engine in the R4 to...

    Renault 6 sticky front brake

If it is the flexible hose at fault, as seems likely, replace the other side as well. It’s likely to be close to failure too.

    Fully synthetic oils

I have read that oils with a high zinc content are the most suitable for older engines. From my understanding, these oils protect the internal movements with a softer metal than the components of the original metals made by the manufacturers. I’m not going further because I can’t explain the...

    Mk1 Renault 5

I agree with Lobster’s post. I agree with you as well jxke. Ultimately, it’s your car and it suits you as it is. What more needs to be said ? In my thoughts, anything that you do that will prolong your love affair with your R5 is a great thing. Your time, expenses and tlc will maintain the...

Looking to buy but need info .

Yes the Renault 6 would have all you need to underpin a R4 as an upgrade. But Renault 6 examples are hard to find. Would it be better to keep the 6 original. Could it be regarded as a better car? What would happen to the gutted donor?

Thanks for taking my suggestion on board! Those 4s certainly have “patina” The mark 2 and mark 1 Renault 6 look quite a lot better.

    Curious Starter Motor Problem

I agree with all the above. Even though my experience is with RHD cars I cannot emphasise enough the need to replace the engine mount support described above as the “bridge “ It must be difficult to do with a steering column in close proximity. The engine mount WILL break without the...

    4L International 2019.

Thenay is fantastic. I went there last time in 2017. I travelled from Australia to be there.* The setting is a race track and the surrounding villages are quaint and appealing. Food is great in the villages and available on site. Lots of camping areas. There are literally hundreds of R4s of...

    Rear drum adjustment

My method is as follows. I have found it successful even on the 1960’s models with 4 drum brakes and no discs at the front. Firstly, lubricate the adjusters inside and outside the hub. I’ve always fully backed off the adjuster to fit the shoes inside the drum. Adjust the shoes until until they...
