Hi there,
As a lover of old french cars, particularly basic ones, I've been a casual admirer of this site and R4s in general for many years (up until now been into 2CVs though, having owned one since the late 80s).
My wife mentioned that her Dad wanted a shed clearing and in it was an old Renault that she used drive around the farm when she was a little girl (!).
Having swept the dust off and removed much of the (dried) mud from the underside, I found a tatty but solid and original R4 TL.
Its been in the corner of the shed since 1985, so the brakes are seized and because we can't find the correct ignition key (they had a few R4s on the farm), don't know if it will run. The plugs were clean and the there is oil in the sump.
I don't know much about R4s, but I know they have a propensity for oxidising. Having prodded around underneath, with wheels off for better access (i have tons of photos) I was pleasantly surprised. The bad bits that I could tell with my untrained eye:
n/s front corner floorpan small hole
n/s rear corner floorpan larger hole.
n/s front and rear wings bashed
front bumper and corner overriders bent
Bonnet hinge missing.
Front n/s chassis rail (near bumper) bashed.
The chassis has surface rust but seems generally solid, as does the interior. However its clearly not a minter. Its a one family owned car, 55000 miles, that used to ferry farm workers around, and has had a bash at the front at some point.
It'll be a shame to let it go as I would love to do something with this myself, but I don't have the money or the time, so thought someone on here might want to have a go.
I won't clog the site up with lots of images but can forward lots of relevant pics on request.
I don't know what its worth, but the cost of trailering it from the Scottish Borders would need to be allowed-for.
Offers? (is this allowed admin?)
