1984 Renault 4 GTL 1108cc RHD with SUN ROOF - Rare!

A classic Petina Rat Look Renault 4, I personally love it, I know this may not be everyones taste, but I can guarantee you will smile every time you drive him (Rennie).

ORIGINAL PRICE - £2000 - (including over £500 of new engine parts and new clutch)
REVISED PRICE 1 - £2450 - (this was the revised price as I undertook the engine work and replaced the clutch and piston rings)
REVISED PRICE 2 - £3000 - (this is the revised price as I have renewed the MOT and completed additional works on brakes and steering - I am not trying to make a profit, just need to try and recoup some of the money I have invested)

MOT until August 2017, sadly needing to sell as I am leaving the country. The car was exported from the UK to Spain early in it’s life (...mmm nice and warm and dry) and then re-imported back to the UK by myself about 5 years ago. Full history and paperwork present.

Car is running and used regularly and has 37,662 (37,266 at time of original post) miles on the clock.

Work and maintenance completed to date:

  • New battery
  • New starter motor
  • New thermostat
  • New rear exhaust and silencer
  • New brake master cylinder
  • New ignition coil
  • New distributor cap
  • New points
  • New rotor arm
  • New condenser
  • New valves
  • New valve guides
  • New carburettor needle valve
  • New exhaust centre pipe
  • New Radiator
  • Replaced piston rings
  • New head gasket
  • New crank shaft bearings
  • New headlamp
  • New clutch
  • New offside brake hose
  • New rear brake lines
  • New front brake discs
  • New nearside track rod end
  • New offside CV boot
  • Emissions/carb tune up

The vinyl roof does need replacing as it is starting to grow holes and leak, as a result, the interior roof lining has starting to come down and needs removing too.

I also have haynes manuals, technical manuals and service manuals, also quite rare and very useful.

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions :)

ps Please can I thank Clementines for a very useful basic functional website, this is the first website I found when I purchased the Renault, 4 years ago and I'm pleased to see it's still going and as useful as ever :)

You've been spotted mate
A mate of mine found you outside Bournemouth Hospital back in July. She a true rag top? And Good luck on the sale, ideal summer project by the looks of things.

Hey Eoynteenie, that's hilarious!

Nice work on the recon, yes, you are correct, i've been spotted and I was at the Hospital in July with Rennie, well at least you all know he is real and does work! He is an original rag top (wabasto - from memory).

Looks like you have a little more to restore on yours :) Good luck too, I guess I can't tempt you into a slightly more complete R4...

my poor little r4 has had the hard life, never leaving this old south coast, done a number on his chassis and to all his panels. Not really sure what I'm getting when I get him back together.

With a modified Bora and a classic saab 900, my hands are...full? I would love a working R4 but might stop Rene's restore and might annoy the gf as I (not we...not sure what is going on there) am meant to be saving for a house.

Oh, and there is a motorbike in my collection some where.....

Here are a couple of pics of the rear suspension for closer inspection.

I have started the work on replacing the worn piston rings, I hope to this this completed next week.

While doing this I will also replace the clutch.

After a lot of TLC and time I can confirm Rennie has had a full engine rebuild, replacing old worn piston rings and clutch :) He is now running better than ever and not clouding blue smoke over everyone.

A little welding was also completed to finish the job - He is now available for sale again :)

Hi Tom,

Sorry for the delay in response, I have been away and now back in the UK.

Rennie, is still for sale - I decided to keep him until I returned. I have just MOT'd him and he is driving better than ever after the carb tune :)

If any one is still interested, just let me know :)

Thanks
Mick
