Alternator light on

I knew when I first 'met' my car that the alternator warning light sometimes came on but Mr Reno has checked the output of the alternator, and all was well. He had never known the car to ever have a flat battery so the light, which stays on all of the time now, is a puzzle. As long as the car is running well, and I have been driving her each day this week, I'm fairly content, but I must investigate the cause. Never tinkered with an alternator before.

Hi Paul, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the same issue 1982 F4.

Do your cars have regulators inside the alternators or on the cars' bulkheads? Remember, it's one or the other, NOT both! If your cars have had alternators retro-fitted it's possible someone didn't remove the regulator, which IS needed when the car has a dynamo, but not necessarily needed with an alternator.
