Just to make it a little easier to install the driveshaft in my 83 GTL I used a couple of bits of thin but strong rope as arranged in the photo below. It was quite easy to pull the strings through the slack jubilee clip and when the spring was compressed tighten the jubilee clip and tie a knot for good measure. Once the drive shaft was installed the string was released and removed. Job done. So much easier than than the contraption shown in the Haynes manual.
