Q. Would a late date TL have the same HAO gearbox as a GTL?

Would it also have the same manifold and carb too?

Thanks all

good morning,

The later TL has a 956cc cleon engine the HAO gearbox will fit an give your car 4 forward gears.
The end ratio is lower then the GTL gearbox.
You will be driving at higher revolutions in the highest gear.

The manifold is the same as on the GTL engine.
It also has a zenith 28 IF carburettor.

Regards, Robert

Morning Robert - he he the men in sheds network is working a treat ;) Thank you !

So does that mean the engine will be turning over faster in fourth gear for the same speed or the other way round?

Yes the engine is turning faster to get the same speed. Excuse me I wrote higher end ratio but it has to be lower end ratio.

Ah Ha !

Thank you Robert. I have a possibility of getting hold of a TL gearbox but if its going to be slower not such a good idea. maybe I should fit a 5 speed R5 gearbox? The engine will be the new one on the other thread (ie a 688 Cie 1108cc GTL engine)

As I wrote in the hot or not topic You do not have enough power for a 5 speed gearbox I think it is a useless modification. Just stick to a GTL gearbox.
