Pffffffff, spend another six hours on the hood, but I'm almost there! I had to do it all over again to get the larger dents out.

Next, sanding with 400 grit, and 2k primer. It is going to be mirror smooth!!

Thanks!

I removed the glue residue on the rear wheelarches:

Then I disassembled the doors & parts

Can't use this one..

Once I finished this, I started (again) on the hood:

WP_20170801_11_09_01_Pro.jpg
Once I sanded down this filler, me and my buddy (Dick) started mixing the primer and started with priming the hood, and the MG doors

Below, Dick spraying his doors

No dents visible & notable! Yeahh!!!!

WP_20170801_16_38_55_Pro.jpg

But, they're are still some minor spots to work on, then I will wetsand it for the last time... Nearly there!

Need to use some fine filler to fill up these little holes.

In the end, it was a hardcore job to get the hood smooth, but it was a very rewarding experience - 'learning by doing'. Would I do it all over again? Hell no, instead I would be buying a new hood.:waving: I spent almost 16 hours on it..

Next job, priming the motor compartment & order paint (base coat).

Beer time!:drunk:

Nice job again Jurjen and why not doing the "hard way" on the bonnet? For me it's more rewarding to keep as many as original (/body) parts as possible despite the many many hours of labour ;)
And ehhh do I really see a case of Hinniken??? Man, we don't drink that in our country we ship it out and keep the good beer here
I know a bit about beer as I'm a professional craft beer brewer for years.

Jdew you do not see it right!

He is not drinking H. He is using it for stand....That is something real Netherlander/Dutch can forgive to a fellow countryman ;)

Joop, You brew craft beer? Wow. I love craft beer and last August my wife and I visited Toronto and New England where I drank some humdingers. Tell me more about your Brewery please.

Hi Paul, hopefully Jurjen will let us talk on his restoration topic about craft beers aka the real beers :D
I'm 52 years young and I started brewing when I was 17 years old after I got the hang of it I brewed once a week whenever I could.
6 years ago I decided to make a profession out of my hobby, the decision was made due to a massive reorganization.

I learned the lager volume of brewing at really nice brewery called "De Graaf van Heumen" near Nijmegen.

After a year I started my first project for a brewery in Apeldoorn "Bierbrouwerij de Vlijt".
I dismantled the complete 10 hl brewery in a basement in Klagenfurt Austria, shipped it to Apeldoorn, did a full restoration on all the equipment and put it back in commissioning.

I worked there for 2 years but for me it was too quiet, I needed a bigger challenge.

In 2015 I started at a new brewery "De Loonbrouwerij" just for the craftbeer brands which don't have the large equipment.
Again a full restoration on a 10 hl brewery and all the equipment and put it back in commissioning, but after a year the capacity was too small.
Now we have a complete brand new 20 hl German build brewery.

Cheers, Joop

Bad news, holiday is over! :(:)

But the last days I made some progress, especially some things which are on my to-do list for ages..

Removed all the bits & parts on the rear door and marked the areas which neef attention..
WP_20170826_16_59_10_Pro.jpg

Broken bolt on body (hood lever), fixed it with a helicoil. Let's say, it does the job..

WP_20170827_15_27_44_Pro.jpg

This I postponed for a very long time. A rusted & broken down rear brake adjustment bolt. It was previously damaged by an vice grip. Well, here we go..
WP_20170827_15_27_58_Pro.jpg

To work on it, I had to remove the bearing and backing plate:
WP_20170827_16_03_36_Pro.jpg
WP_20170827_16_09_52_Pro.jpg

Then I sandblasted it, you can clearly see the damage
WP_20170827_16_49_33_Pro.jpg

I welded new steel on the damaged part for reworking the square

WP_20170827_17_02_15_Pro.jpg

Square done, but then I noticed the broken down ring, awwww crap! Don't know what have happened here! The adjustment bolt was all loose.

Instead of buying a new backing plate, I use a brake hose spring clamp (don't know englisch translation) to add tension on the adjustment bolt. It is not an optimal solution, but at least I can now adjust the brake shoe.. :)

Oh and I also reworked a Vespa Ciao engine, lovely little jobs :DWP_20170825_16_16_48_Pro.jpg

Nice work and improvisation on the broken ring ;) and the cause of a broken ring ... hmmmm... could be a very rare R4 phenomenon called metal fatique :D but I think the signs of the broken ring were already visible on the photo's.
Cheers, Joop

Busy weekend! I replaced the old bearings on the rear axle by a new SKF set. Above = old, underneath = new

WP_20170910_12_24_39_Pro.jpg

WP_20170910_12_47_22_Pro.jpg

And, for something totally else - a hell of a job replacing the crankshaftbearing & clutch replacement on my AX. So little room to work in! Aaaargh..

WP_20170908_13_44_53_Pro.jpg WP_20170908_16_47_13_Pro.jpg

And - "for the most ugly moped award" - my workshop buddy bought a Peugeot Rapido '94. But the fun is, it is really damm fast!

When our cars are done we will work on it.

WP_20170907_21_32_28_Pro.jpg

Now back to the body work..

Hi Jurjen,
Good to see that, beside your normal profession, you're almost turned to a full car mechanic :D and I can't believe that you've "So little room to work in!" judging to my own eyes after paying a visit at the mancave over there :)
Question, did you order the bearings at R-Quatre (or the Frenchman) and do they come with new inner and outer seals?
Keep up all the good work

Hi Joop,

Thanks! Haha, I meant little room in the engine compartment. I have no complaints on our mancave!

I ordered the bearings on www.lagerboer.nl. I did use the seals which were already on the axle - not ideal - but I haven't found them sold separately on the internet? Any advice most welcome!

Hahaa oh no room in that Citroen AX OK that makes sense in a R4 engine compartment you can easily swim around.

Hi Jurjen,
You can give Jan-Willem (R-Quatre) a call and when you know the partnumber (inside the workshop manual) he can tell you if there's still NOS available or otherwise aftermarket.
Greets, Joop
