Good work Jurjen but still lots to do ;)
When I look at my project and seeing yours, I think that the amount of work and time spent on only restoring the body it's the same amount of time and work on restoring/rebuilding the engine, gearbox, chassis and front and rear suspension together.

Keep up the good work and pace.
Regards, Joop

Hi Joop,

I must admit that I did not expected that working on the body would involve that much time. You're absolutely right! It is sometimes very attractive to focus on another things - must-resist-the-dark-side...

But I really need to finish bodywork soon. The tempatures are now on a critical point for painting the body..

Hi guys, time for an update..

Progress has been slow last weeks. I took over my parents car, so some attention is going to it:

WP_20171008_16_30_30_Pro.jpg

Well, on with the other renault:

I want to paint my car bleu Saviem, which look like this:
323.JPG

This week I ordered the paint, but that looks like this, not the colour I expected to be. To dark and not as 'fresh' as the colour shown on the photo above. So back to the webshop where I ordered the paint from... pfeww.

WP_20171024_17_03_16_Pro.jpg

Last but not least, our workplace is a big mess at the moment. My friend bought an Volvo Amazon '67 - but it has unfortunately some problems. Today we managed to blow up the exhaust. (LPG & bad ignition very dangerous..) It was quite a bang!

To be continued..

Hey Jurjen, you're in the home stretch with that nice choosen color (sky-blue :)) did you ordered the paint at Vocor-Tools?
Maybe the color becomes fresh after several layers and a polish job? I don't have the experience yet with the final stage :dontknow:

And may I say that fireworks starts early this year at the man cave?? Wow that must have been a nice BANG :clapping:

Cheers, Joop

Hi guys,

I was wrong about the paint! Probably it needed extra time to become a good paint mix? Anyhow, today was my first experience in spraypainting a car! I only did the engine compartment. This way the body can go back on the chassis & it saves space in the workshop. The end is coming on the body work.

@Joop, I ordered the paint on www.nonpaints.com

When the paint was dry, I continued working on the body:

Hi Jurjen,
Impressive color you've choosen and well done on that first time spraypaint job, that's the way a 100% self restoration should be done :clapping:
And ehh paint from Non Paints ?? Hence the name or shouldn't I take the websites name not too serious :D ??
Best regards, Joop

Jurjen, did you use a 1 or 2 component paint?
We spoke earlier about 1 or 2 component paint and you tended for a 1 component.

I used a 2k paint (MIKA), but - I have to admit - I ordered the wrong paint. I intented to use a basecoat+clearcoat, but I bought a 'topcoat' instead (I know, very dumb..) but nevertheless, it is oke to paint with! :scared::whistle:

Hi guys, a quick heads up. Progress is at the moment non-existing.. Our workshopcompressor broke down, difficulties with my moped and some minor issues on my renault Scenic and last but not least: the painted engine compartment had some small infections 'fish eyes', so I sanded down the paint again, but the working temperatures are to low now to paint. Unfortunately also very busy with work on the moment. Aaaaargh!

Hello!

Small update, I did some work on the doors. These are those typical ´holiday-jobs´ :D

Old & dented door

I had to cut out the rust & holes..

First coat of filler

Sanding & fine filler coat. Still need to sand it down smooth.

Donor door as the old one was rusted on the bottom. Cleaning, sanding, cleaning, sanding, cleaning, sanding...

It's becoming smooth again!

Next week we are going to build our own spray booth for the cars. Heated and with ventilation, nice!

Cheers,
Jurjen

Yes, temperatures are terrible for paint to dry. I'm doing a small rust patch under my back door window and the primer coat took 2 hours to dry:(

Howdieho guys!

An update from the previous month! We finally managed to get are compressor running again. It was a fault in the star/delta switch. We got ourselves a new one, and to make a very long story, very short / it is running like a charm again.

Friends of mine helping out!

WP_20171229_16_18_59_Pro.jpg

I almost finished the corners on the rear door:

WP_20180120_16_57_12_Pro.jpg

Also a small rust spot repaired, but I forgot to make a photo on the end result. Anyway, no one will ever notice :)

WP_20180120_13_22_34_Pro.jpg

WP_20180120_13_38_29_Pro.jpg

I sanded the welds and did some filler on it.

WP_20180120_14_28_17_Pro.jpg

Then I started (again) on the left front door, I added a small layer of fine filler to fill the finest sanding scratches.

WP_20180120_16_54_41_Pro.jpg

And! We made our little spraybooth, but we need to wait until the temperatures are rising again, and we still need to do a lot sanding..

So far the Renault. As for the Grand Scenic, I had to bring her do the dealership. Long story, fuelpump & connector broke down. Almost 1000,- euros. :o:doh:

Anyway, progress is somewhat slow these days, but I will keep you updated! Cheers, Jurjen

Again nice work Jurjen!
The spraybooth party tent :D is a good solution, and yes temperatures are terrible for spraypaint jobs pfff :vsad:
Keep it up and maybe this summer I'll see you and your 4L drive-by at my restoration location.
:drunk: Cheers, Joop

Oefff, time for an update!

The temperatures are low at the moment, so I can't do any painting unfortunately. But we did build our airfilter for in the spraybooth. I connected the two 'exaust-air-vents' (380v) which are located on the roof. I haven't tested it, but it creates a huge amount of vacuum air flow already :D

WP_20180226_17_27_55_Pro.jpg

Two boxes for air inlet. We need to build a filter for it.

WP_20180226_17_28_06_Pro.jpg

Awwww yeahhhh :drunk:

WP_20180227_13_32_35_Pro.jpg

Then I started working on the rear bodypanels. Well, the fit isn't exactly 100%, but with some time and care taken, the allignment is pretty o.k. I prefer to do the alignment before I spray paint them. In fact, I will attach them fully - with sealant, before I paint them.

Some hammering to get the correct fit.

WP_20180227_15_18_24_Pro.jpg

WP_20180227_17_34_39_Pro.jpg

Next, permanent fit, filler & sanding! (again, grrr).

:)

Hi Jurjen, Wow that's some serious airflow you're creating for the spray booth, well done!
And alignment of all the wings, doors, hatch and bonnet.... yes that'll take some time and patience
Keep on going mate, the end is near and I'm sure I'll see you and Louise this summer.

Hi guys,

Last two days I have been working on aligning the hood and front bodyparts. I drove me nuts on a certain moment.. :o

Things to consider:
- If you have original bodyparts, and you don't need to remove / replace them, let them on!
- Aftermarkt parts do fit, but in my case the drilled holes were not alligned correctly
- Make sure the hood is centred and in the correct position first
- Don't be afraid to cut, drill & weld
- Don't paint the parts first

Well this is the result, not perfect, but it will not be better than this. I unfortunately made a dent on the hood near the hood locking mechanism

Looks pretty straight to me. Have you already fitted the little rubber grommets that fit on top of the inner wing to keep the bonnet in place?
