Ok, here it goes my R4. It´s from 1988, it was from a construction company I worked for, and I keep it when the company closed...

It´s not running since 2005, but it was working untill 2 weeks, it has only 455012kms on the clock.

Here some pic´s when I bought her in 2010 and took her home...

Now it has the engine off and I´m starting to bring her back to life.

So the engine is also out and I´ve started today to trip it down.

Ok everyone I need help here.

Is it possible to swap the engine of R4 GTL by the engine of the Volvo 440 turbo?

I know that must pleople swap R5GTT engine by Volvo 440 turbo engine´s so I thought it may be possible to swap the R4 engine by the Volvo one...

That's a lot of stuff to fit in a little r4!
Great enthusiasm

Good Luck

( I wonder if he possesses a pilot's licence ?? )

I can't imagine its easy but neither should it be impossible.

We've seen R4s with the Superfive engine in. This engine - in unturbo'd form - also went in the Superfive so maybe its possible? Can't be easy but I'd love to see it done!

The Renault 4 has a longitudinal engine which makes the engine swap difficult. The later Renault 5 GT turbo has a transverse engine with the alternator at the other end of the engine so the swap would be much easier.

It's not impossible, but there would be a great deal of engineering involved. It would be much easier to look for a 1.4L engine from a MK1 Renault 5 which will fit in a Renault 4.

Ok, and in the old 1108cc what is the performance we can get from that?

I´ve taken the cylinder head out, and I like what I´ve seen, it has good valve diameter, may be theres some potencial in the old 1108cc.

I´ve build a mini engine with 1060cc, 260º cam, ported head with 33mm 29mm valves CR 10.5:1, a few more bits and manage to put it from the stock 37HP to 64.8HP, may be de old 1108cc from the R4 will get this power figures?

The engine swap for a R5 mk1 alpine is pretty straightforward. See my posts. The car is a completely different beast than and like me you will find that you are continually trying to develop it into something drive able. It becomes addictive! Go for it and make yourself smile!
