Renault 4l front wheel wont sit where it should

Hi, I have finished rebuilding my r4...well for most of it. But I am having trouble getting the left front suspension to sit on the same level as the right. I have tried fiddling with the torsion bar, tie rods, rackends, even drive shafts, but my front left wheel still remains sunk in the fender and protrudes outwards as shown. Any tips to get the necessary position will be greatly appreciated

If you can not find it than i will try to find it tommorow when i sit on computer. Now i am on my phone and it is not easy to find it over phone

Thanks Petak, I will greatly appreciate any guide on front torsion bar adjustment for height.

Hi!

Some topic from this forum where ride height was discussed and how to adjust it.

1. http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/threads/how-to-set-front-ride-heights.5693/

2.http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/threads/lowering-the-drive-height.7007/#post-42780

3.http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/thr...6-restoration-project.3173/page-11#post-35542

4.http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/threads/ride-heights-again.3643/

And pdf how to do it taken from one other french site. translated to english by google translator, and with some my comments in Croatian

And one very good comment from our forum member Angel:

Before dealing with torsion bar and ride height settings, make sure that if the upper or lower wishbones had been removed, they have been tightened at the correct position. If in doubt, loosen all four pivot bolts and with a jack set the car so that H1-H2 is 90mm (that will be easier without bolting the torsion bar anchor lever). At this point tighten the pivot bolts to correct torque.
Of course, final ride height check should be done with the car fully equipped (seats, glass etc). Don't fit the anti-roll bar, it will be easier to check left to right ride height difference that way.

Hope all this will help you how to fix your ride height.

This all is applied if your front torsion bars are fixed tipe. If they are adjustable tipe than it is little bit different

Hi Petak,
I am back again.

The manuals helped get with the torsion bar adjustments. However, once I set the ride height, it only holds for 10minutes and then collapses gradually until the whole tyre is sank. But this only happens on one side of the car. I am not sure what could be causing the loss of height. Please help

Did you put right torsion bar on right side?

Maybe you have two "left" (or two "right") torsion bars.

Or your torsion bar is "broken", snapped. I can not see how that can happen and torsion bar be in one peace, but anything can happen.

Now it is clear why you had spring mounted around shock absorber together with torsion bar

Or something is wrong with lower arm front bracket for torsion bar or with rear bracket, as torsion bar is same thing as spring on new cars.
And when you put it on and adjust car to right height car should stay like that even if there is no shock absorber on it.

Did you tighten bolt that holds lower arm to the vertical bracket to right tightening moment?
Bolt goes in same hole where torsion bar goes but before torsion bar.

Post some pictures under/behind wheel so we can try to located what is wrong.

Finally found the problem. Turns out I wasnt giving the torsion bar the tension it needed. Tightened it completely and now car lift is maintained.

Celebrations came too soon Petak... now facing a new problem... when I engage reverse, the front wheels collapse into the fenders... but rise when moving forward... Really frutstrating this restoration process
