Hello guys;
I bought an engine from late r6 in a scrapyard and I was wondering about the codes...

Anyone has some material and knowledge about these codes?
My fear if that I could have bought an r4 gtl engine, since the code seems to refer to it. Maybe the old owner made a swap... the carb seems correct for r6, the distributor is missing.
I know that camshaft is different between r4 and r6 688 engines.
Which kind of ratios has the gearbox? Would it be better with an r4 gtl gearbox?
I will appreciate even advices on which distributor I have to look for, in order to have the best results with this engine.
I have available r4 savane and gtl and r5 (956cc) distributors available, and 191 and 146 gearboxes.
Thanks guys!

Hi,
I can't help with the engine information as my Renault 6 does not have an engine plate at all!

I can help with the gearbox. If the number is 96 then it comes from model type 2370 (FASA)
It has a 8/31 final drive ratio (3.875) which only a couple of FASA Renaults used. Most are 8/33 (4.125) and the GTL type 1128 is 10/31 (3.10)
So your gearbox is somewhere "in between" the range that Renault produced.

BTW the lowest gearing in the HA series of gearboxes was 8/35 (4.375) which was also produced by FASA. It was put into a type 1183.
