But if you spot this old timer, that'll be me!

Nice run out this evening, Milford, round Keyhaven with views of the IOW and the needles few people waving at me and the car running sweet, treated her to a wash and clean when I go home.

So managed to sort the vertical gear grommet out with the little white insert.. now the horizontal one.. bought these from Franzose - any ideas where they go as for the life of me I cant work it out

This may help, Richnd.......although I've never seen anything like your photo. I thought it was an advert at first.

Hold it the way it sits in the photo is.
The rubber piece in the left hand side sits in the hole on top of the crossmember the plastic grommet goes in to the rubber piece.
The other rubber piece fits over the edge on the plastic grommet and closes it from dust and dirt. You can put some grease in both rubber pieces to make for smooth gear changes.

I will have another look tomorrow cheers

Dash out tonight to replace all the 30 year old bulbs and to be honest I am sure the oil and temp bulbs were toast, a lot brighter all round

One issue no handbrake light, works on the fluid reservoir, traced the handbrake light cable to under the dash and it's swinging in the wind, no wonder it doesn't work, any ideas where it plugs into? Brown wire with a male connector on.

Hand brake wire goes a side of ventilation/heater down to the floor thru crossmember on handbrake lever

P1020993.jpg

On other side at instrument cluster it should be together with wire from brake fluid reservoar.
ON bigger plug/jack it should be pin no 8 according to haynes wiring diagram

Brilliant thank you that makes sense, I think I shall run a new wire down and connect to pin 8 and see what I get, looks like it was /
/ had been modified in the past as the brown wire won't reach the cluster, I'm on a mission to light them all up

It's a full set, found the tail for the handbrake light coming down from the dash, ran a new wire all the same and tidied up the already solid floor, Job done

It's been pretty quiet in my garage of late, but I've been driving around in the R4 and it's not missed a beat... Still got a long list of things to do.. Plan to crack on when the summer is over I think, enjoy the car for now..

Then Mot in December, should fly through I think

It's time... It's time to underseal the underside before the satly roads eat it up... Pictures as I go .... Just jet washed years of crud from the underside, arches and hidden areas

Noticed while underneath the middle pipe in the exhaust has a minor leak... All my doing, another little job to rectify tomorrow assuming I can break the seal..

That's me done...
Two hours washing the underside
Two hours wire brushing and brushing
Two hours spraying and painting the underside
One hour sorting out all the bare arches

Results are OK and it will keep the worst off for now and keep what is a structurally sound underbelly intact.

Fairly easy with a set of ramps and wheel chock

Beer time..

So I've been busy of late but still driving my little gem around, the crank case oil leak has stopped so could of been a blocked breather, I shall continue to monitor. Roll bar bushes to do in the coming weeks ready for its annual mot.

And maybe some little exterior enhancements. The roof gutter trim needs replacing, it's black at the moment but was thinking maybe charger it to chrome.. Thoughts please...

And decided to leave the wheel refurbishment until next spring so she looks good for the summer.. Happy motoring...
