1984 Renault 11 GTL

Hello! :waving: Long time, no see :D
Anyway, nothing much is done here, except that radiator and occasionally turning the engine on. I got all the parts needed so tomorrow it goes to the mechanic, on Friday on deep cleaning and polishing and then MOT. After MOT, I have in plan to clean all the rust underneath because car doesn't have license plates and it is in the public garage so it is quite tricky to get all things done there while is not registered.

As you can see, all the parts are ready.

So, there is engine oil and the filter, gearbox oil, brake oil, antifreeze, water pump, belt, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, carburetor repair kit and completely new front and rear brakes. I don't have in plan to change anything in the suspension for now because it is all original and doesn't make any sound so I would like to keep it as long as I can.
If you think I am missing some parts or it will be good to change it, feel free to tell. Until next time, have a nice day :waving:

There are 4 different brake shoe and cylinder setup fitted with bendix and girling versions both changing designs in 1986 hopefully you have selected correctly

Hello! So the mechanical part is over, all liquids are changed, new brakes, new sparks, ignition set, carb cleaned, new feul and water pump, etc. Car is running perfectly at idle, it is nicely speeding up, but a little bit hesitant on slight touch of the pedal. Anyway, here are photos so enjoy :D

That is all for now, I have to pass MOT next because it will be easier to drive it around on polishing and other things that should be done. So, until then, this is about to be it.. See you guys :D

For some time I searched for the best solution to get bumpers and plastic trims back to origine. I did not want to do it with industrial fan because it does permanent damage for the plastic. So I decided to use Sonax gel cream made specifically for that kind of problem. It turns out great in my opinion, take a look...

This is what I am talking about

The next week I have to arrange painting wheels, I have to buy new tires and then MOT. Now it is coming time where I really can`t wait anymore :D

With nice spring weather (and that fu*king Corona virus ) some nice things happened :D Wheels are sand blasted, protected, painted and baked in the oven, guess it should do the job :D I bought brand new Kleber tyres because old ones were 12 years old and egg shaped because the car stayed so many years on them. Anyway, here is result

Yesterday I went to MOT station, and passed without any complaint. The ecotest was like when it was new

So far, so good. The next thing is cleaning the interior and polishing. Then it will be ready for nice and easy spring and summer drives with Serge Gainsbourg singing in the background :artist:

It was a big struggle inside my head, whether I will change the muffler or not. So I decided to do it.
But I was not quite happy with what I got because the exhaust pipe was too short and looked amputated.

But the underbody now looks perfect, just like when it was new.

The next day I decided that I do not want to look at this amputated pipe so i made new from original specifications

The wheels are repainted but the bolts were very dirty and that was making me really nervous so I cleaned and polish them. I did that by hands and would not recommend doing that if you like your fingers :o:D Anyway, now it looks like it should be

Hello!
After a long time searching for yellow "hats" for the h1 bulbs and as I couldn't find them, I decided to buy yellow h1 bulbs. It is not the happiest solution because I didn't get the look I wanted when the lights are off, but it turns out great when the lights are on.

Until I find them, I will have to satisfy myself whit this yellow bulbs...

It's good to see your R11. I recommissioned one about 30 years ago just after school. It was to be a first car for a friend and I was paid by her parents. It was exactly the same colour and specification as yours.

That was 30 years ago, so yours is a fabulous find and well worth preserving.

Hi Mario,
I bought the same car a few months ago and very happy with it. The only problem I have is the very difficult starting in the morning when cold. Please let me know in what order you start yours - choke, pumping etc...The method of starting a cold engine in the factory manual doesn't work. I never manage to start the car from the first attempt!

Hello, sorry for late response, but I wasn't here. Anyway, when cold, I always start the car the same way I start my R4. Full choke and a slight press on the gas pedal. Did you think of renewing the carb? Is it single head Solex 32 BIS?

Yes, it's single Solex 32 BIS. And yes - I will go to carb doctor to try to fix it. If that does't work , the last hope is to swap the Solex for Weber as fitted to Renault 11 1.4 GTS, TSE ...
