Anyone tried a Zenith 28if on an 850cc engine?

My Rodeo is too slow. It has a 747cc engine and really bad aerodynamics and the maximum speed is under 80km/h. It has trouble holding 4th gear on the slightest incline. The carburettor is a Solex 22-26 which I think means 22mm throat. That was only a 747cc option and it's going to be one...

    Terminal decline?

Do you mean the suspension mounting bracket? It doesn't look so bad. Wouldn't be a bad idea to brush something oily on there to slow down any deterioration. A normal paint probably won't do you any favours as there are so many seams and bits you can't get to but painting something oil like...

I prefer 145/80 13. My fleet is running Uniroyal Rain Expert 3.

    Dropped door fix?

I always used to open the door a little then give it a pull upwards to bend the hinge back to the right place.

    Rodeo Recommissioning

A bit more progress today. Speedo is working again with a new needle. I've been trying to improve the performance as the top speed is only 80km/h. It's only a 747cc engine but I was hoping for a bit more. Old fuel won't be helping as it runs best well off the factory recommended timing...

No longer available / hard to find parts fabricating

I've been calibrating a speedo against the sat nav today. This Veglia speedo seems accurate when the needle is placed about halfway between the bottom stop and the bottom of the speedo case. It can be bent a little to get it back past the stop. Well worth checking it against the sat nav...

Oh heck - bubbly froth in the expansion bottle. I've ordered a head gasket kit. It probably is the head gasket pushing combustion gasses into the water but I've got a test - let the car cool overnight and remove the expansion bottle cap the next morning. If it hisses then there is more stuff...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

@mr-reno-139 Thanks for the Ornella brake video. I did the Rodeo brakes 8 years ago so they will have had a chance to get stuck. They seem better today and the hubs were cold when I checked. I'll try adjusting again as @Piet suggested. I'll need to adjust the handbrake too - I've got the...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

The Rodeo made it to Tesco about 5 miles away on it's second attempt and I put some petrol in to see if the fuel gauge works. It doesn't and I think it's the sender. The speedometer doesn't work either - it gets stuck because of a bent needle. There is an uncomfortable vibration in the...

1108cc engine reluctant to start hot or cold

I think I've found a fix for the issue I was having. I've replaced the (aftermarket) coil with a spare and it will tolerate choke when cold now. Resistance in the old coil was a bit low in the secondary winding so I think something has gone wrong in there. The R4 coil measures 3 ohms...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

Sounds like the same one. I had to replace the top bolt with an allen bolt because there wasn't room for a socket behind the solenoid. A 5 year life isn't good - they are a pain to fit in LHD cars.

1108cc engine reluctant to start hot or cold

Claude has never been very good at starting and I assumed that was because the fuel drained back past the pump after he had been sitting for a while. The fuel filter stays full with the new fuel pump so that's not it. And the petrol is new. The engine runs perfectly once it is going so it's...

The trimmer did a brilliant job. They are 1972 van seats with the the proper seat base and the deck chair back. They are very comfortable but at first my legs didn't fit under the steering wheel. The base foam is original and fortunately they settled quickly. It felt like summer today...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

I collected the seats from the trimmer this morning and fitted them to the Rodeo. Started out for the first drive in 12 years then realised I hadn't fitted the UK number plates. Came back to fit the number plates and then went for a drive. It didn't go perfectly. One of the driveshafts is...

    Too rich

That's a really good point. The other not obvious thing for air leaks is the breather hose to the bottom of the carb came from the factory blocked with a plastic piece with a 1mm hole in the middle. I normally block that hose completely.

    What do these things do?

Here's what the owners manual says about heating controls. It also mentions flaps 6 which are the cold air flap vents on top of the dash.

    Too rich

Normally if you need to use the choke to keep the car running when warm it's going to be a blocked main jet. I don't remember if the photo is a Solex or a Zenith but in either case the main jet sits at the bottom of the float chamber. I think it's a Zenith. I had to pull the carburettor...

    Service parts recommendations for supply

For ordinary service parts there are a lot of motor factors selling on eBay. Autodoc has most bits but postage from Germany takes a few days.

    Here's Harvey!

Those repairs look really good. Rust above the rear wings is a pain and it's not often you see it done properly like that.

    Temp. Dash Light on

The temperature warning light would come on when it connects to ground. Either when the temperature sensor gets too hot or when the wire touches the exhaust manifold and shorts out. Does it go off after you start the car from cold? If so probably the sensor is working and maybe the...
