Hello all. I am here in France and a couple of probs have arisen with the r4.
One, the locking push button in the door handle has lost the spring return. Any suggestions as to what to do.
Second. I had the carb cleaned in the uk. I was told to remount it, screw in the mixture to closed and then screw out by, to start with, one complete turn. I have done that and it didn’t run perfectly, bit of hunting, stuttering. So I opened it out a bit more , and it started well, sounds smooth, esp with a little throttle. However if the revs match the road speed there is a sense of misfire, lack of smoothness. Put more throttle and works well, less throttle and it gets lumpy. Good petrol, had the head gasket done recently so assume new plugs, Drives well with a bit of throttle. If you stop when warm, there is a rhythmic brim brm brm.
Any suggestions please.

Hi Edwin
The easiest fix for the first problem would be to replace the complete lock. Fiddly but straightforward. You don't say which side it is, or what year the R4 is, but if it's a later type you can get a pair of fronts here:
Or try here:
Some ideas for the carb problem:
- Check the carb base nuts
- Ditto manifold nuts (especially as the head's been done recently)
- Check the pipe with the restrictor that goes from the carb to the manifold
- Check the plugs for colour - I wouldn't assume that they're new!
- Vacuum pipe from distributor to carb okay?
- Is it definitely fuel? Points gap/condenser?

Good luck!
