This may be a dumb question but as I have conflicting information/pictures, I thought I'd ask.

Should the rubber bush with its nylon counterpart at the gearlevel end of the gearshift be inserted from the top or the bottom?
Currently the very worn one on the car has been inserted from above (would you believe it's held in place with cable ties) and I have seen some images of this (not with the cable ties  )
However I've also seen some images where the reverse is true.

Looking at a Haynes manual and an Autobooks one, the former appears to be showing it fitted from below, but the latter from the top.
From below "seems" correct to me looking at the way it works, but which is correct and does it actually matter?

Hi

I have just revived a thread regarding this job. There are different techniques to getting this fiddly job done. If yours is attached with cable ties, this would indicate the bush is worn. I have a new old stock kit spare if required.

The thread is listed at the top of the latest posts.
