I thought the mk1 R5 GTL (1976-1979) has a 1289 cc engine and 4 speed gearbox.
The mk2 R5 GTL (1980-1985) a 1108 cc engine, initial a 4 speed and from 1982 a 5 speed gearbox.
But changes can and will always be made :D

Hi JdeW, the gearbox came from an A reg ( 1983/84 ) car with an 1108 engine, so a Mk2 not Mk1. My mistake, sorry for the confusion but I know almost nothing about R5`s.

Cheers Simon.

Hello Simon, this is a good website about the R5 http://www.renault-5.net/site.htm
The R5 is great, the successor of the R4 and of course the famous Renault rust is inherited into the R5.
The first R5's came with the same umbrella gear lever as the R4's. For myself I like the sportier R5's the turbo and alpine turbo.
Still looking for a R5 GTT engine to put in a second R4 project.

Cheers, Joop

all mk2 5 are transverse 85 onward nothing is directly changeable with r4
brake lamp and indicator bulbs are about the only common part mk1 R5 and mk2 R5 known as supercinque
