Head restraints - not as expected

Hi folks, medically I need to get head restraints into my 1986 GTL which probably has seats able to accept them (although they've been recovered before I bought it) and the Renault owner's manual shows you how to cut the tops of the seats to accept the optional head restraints. Easy?

I managed to buy, through this forum, a pair of head restraints covered in what my car used to have (tan tartan) and settled down to fit them.

Trouble is, I was expecting the usual chrome/stainless tubular steel supports but instead I have plastic fittings fixed to flat metal (4mm X 15mm approx) legs fixed up inside the base of the restraints.

Neither I or Renault guru Paul Cunningham have seen this type before. Anyone familiar with them? Anyone know how to fit them? If they don't fit my car, does anyone need them?

I'm now thinking of trying to get a pair of the more familiar type (help!), or the old fashioned, aftermarket, slip on type but where from?IMG_20200901_165819453.jpgIMG_20200902_102307745.jpg

Think those are from the final (post 1989) R4 series when they were named Savane and Clan.

As the front chairs ( from 1978 ) are premade for headrests (240mm) you only need to install the mounting sleeves or adapters (red arrows)

Wow! That's very helpful, enlightening and hopeful - many thanks to you.

I think what you are saying is that yes, the head restraints I have (same fixings as yours) should be compatible with my seats. Good news indeed.

Next question: does anyone have those 8 items identified (2 pairs and 2 head restraints)? Maybe someone out there has some but they didn't know what they were?

I'm very hopeful now but very desperate!

After a lot of looking I ended up getting a pair of these slip-on head rests from Germany:

99 Euro each and pretty nice quality- they do them in a variety of colours. I bought a pair a couple of years ago after a cervical fusion, have them on my '68 bench seat r4 and they are really good.
I might invest in a pair anyway - it may be some time before I get my seats sorted. Thanks!
