Renault 4 for sale on eBay

Renault 4 TL in Lincolnshire

A ropey looking 1979 Renault 4 TL is available from Lincolnshire.
It's an MOT failure due to rust and a few mechanicals. Might be useful to someone for spares. Ends 05-Sep-04 17:30:00 BST

UPDATE: Biiding closed at £51.58. Not bad for what looked like a spares car.

Another one spotted by Seamus. It's in Manchester and looks pretty good this time.

Before bidding make sure you go to look at the car. Find out why it's low at the back, and pay the £30 for the MOT. Hold on - he's after the MOT money before auction end. Call the seller and negotiate. Never pay that sort of money for a car without a full 12 month MOT.

<UPDATE> SOLD for £870. That's a reasonably good price for an unrestored Renault 4.

Well spotted Mr Jelly. It's pretty straight looking so it might turn into a nice car with a good polish (assuming the chassis is OK). Sounds like the engine is broken - Clementine could probably provide an engine for the lucky buyer.

It's near Aberystwyth in Wales.

<edit> This one sold for £10.50. Hopefully the new owner will put it back on the road.

Wow - the cars above are a GTL and a 1972 Deluxe, both in Brackley (north of Oxford M40). Must be worth taking a look - from the photos and descriptions they look like the best cars we've seen here yet. The guy appears to be thinning his collection - in addition to these cars he's selling a couple of Alfas.

In addition the seller has a set of Gordini alloys with good tyres, and a set of wings which he is offering at extra charge.

:clementi: :clementi: :clementi: :clementi:

UPDATE: The GTL made it to £700 but was withdrawn to sell to an overseas buyer. It wasn't as good as it looked in the photographs. The Deluxe made it up to £510 despite the rear chassis rust. I bid for that one but it went over the price I was prepared to pay.

Solid looking GTL in West Sussex

Looks faded but solid. Dealer sale, no tax or MOT.
Ends 05-Oct-04 21:14:58 BST Starting bid £1

UPDATE: The car above sold for £205.
Seems the seller has a sense of humour - the following found it's way into the questions and answers:
Q: Does it have an original "Nuclear Power, No Thanks" sticker and how many social workers have owned it? Answered on 04-Oct-04
A: Sadly it no longer has the sticker as the previous owner was Mr.Burns from the Simpsons. As far as I know this has never been owned by any busy bodies either. I hope my answers help you in your quest to find the perfect hippy wagon.

F4 van in Braintree

Went to see the F4 van, to see how bad this was and I wasn't disappointed!
It's very rotten, the drivers floor has dropped out and the nearside is close behind. The van box is actually in very good condition with no dings or dents in the panels but the cab at roofline has rusted through, as is the front scuttle round the broken windscreen.
The only salvageable parts were the rear lights, the front bumper and the van panels!

Even I had to give this one a miss

My mother used to run a Vauxhall Chevette (before we got her into R5s). Rather than wash it she used to paint it with dulux whenever it got dirty. Actually looked quite good.

The seller of the Renault 4 above has answered some questions - it needs welding at the rear and a new exhaust. It sold for £82

There is a Renault 4CV on e-bay at the moment. It's in Plymouth - ridiculously expensive at £4500 starting bid, but anyone who wants one could maybe contact the owner and talk about buying after the action.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2192&item=2491049547&rd=1

UPDATE: Nobody was prepared to bid £4500 for the 4CV. Hope we didn't put the buyers off :D

I hate them with a passion (4CV's that is). I looked after one for a bit. Horrible, difficult to drive, unbelievably slow, dangerous. Horrific!

Far too much E-bay stuff in this thread. Here are some Renault 4s from elsewhere on the Interweb:

If you are in West Sussex then you are spoilt for choice. There's a blue R4 on http://www.renaultclassiccarclub.com/cars_for_sale.htm. It's in East Grinstead and has covered only 20,000 miles. Needs work for the MOT. (Advertised 5th August). There are a couple of other Renault 4s on there, but Chris has bought the one with the MOT (silver).

Renault 4-play offers a pale blue R4 in Nottingham needing a bit of work, a non-running GTL in the West Midlands, and a van on French plates in cornwall. See www.renault4.plus.com/classifieds/classifieds.htm

Threre are a whole load of Renault 4s on the Renault Owner's Club Website: http://www.renaultownersclub.com/classified.html A post office van and a silver GTL (is this the one mentioned above) appear to have MOTs.

In France http://quatrelle.online.fr/accueil.html has dozens of Renault 4s for sale. Follow the link then click on petites annonces.

Wind Classics in the Netherlands has some cars for sale. http://www.windclassics.nl/ and click on Occasions

R4 Van for sale on Renault Owner's Club website...

The silver GTL on the Renault Owner's Club website is indeed the one I bought last week!

As regards the R4 van, I did get in touch with the guy selling it before buying the GTL, so I can tell you a little more about it. It's a former French Post Office van, so is obviously LHD. No problems with re-registering, though, as it's been UK registered for a few years now.

It's 1985, registration number A16OKO. It does have an MOT but that runs out on November 27th. It's taxed until December.

The chap selling it, John Carter, told me that it has some rust on the tops of the front wings and a few dings here and there. It has some off-side chassis rust just behind the front wheel arch. New exhaust. He's offering it for £350. He sent me a photo of it, and it basically matches the description. It doesn't look too bad, to be honest, but as Clementine said in another post about buying R4s, photos can be deceptive, so go and actually see it if you're interested.

I hope that helps someone!!

Chris

Also the Renault 4s in Paris didn't sell too well. If the Frenchies are listening, can you make the items available to the UK and not put a reserve on? That would be better as there are some nice cars over there and flights are cheap. (Bonjour les français. Rendez svp votre Renault 4 disponible dans le monde entier de sorte que nous au UK puissions acheter) :clementi:

There is a nice looking 1962 car over in France at the moment. Everything is described as "bonne". Auction ends: 20-oct.-04 18:21:58 Paris time.

Cars for sale

Hello, everyone!

Here's one I had a look at last weekend

http://www.renaultownersclub.com/nav.html

Renault 4, 1973 (L), silver, excellent condition, 31,000 miles, MoT/taxed to August 2005. All serious offers considered. Tel: 0118 948 3247. 09/10

It's beautifully photographed but that little clip at the bottom of the windscreen is missing (and it needs a bit of cash spending to bring it to Ermintrude standards ...... he's looking to recoup what was paid for the car, a significant amount I think. If you're interested then feel free to email me for the things I spotted before you make a trip to Reading.

but this is my favourite at the moment

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2495361446

Will I be back behind the wheel of an R4 by the end of the year? I'll let you know how I get on!

PPD

1973 - Ah - just too late to be tax free. Mind you L is early 73 and the tax free thing goes off the date of manufacture rather than the date of first registration so there may be a chance. Did the car have the bench seat? Clementine likes bench seats. :clementi:

UPDATE: The While GTL mentioned above went for £560, but the buyer wasn't pinkpenguindog.

R4 in Blue (Gershwin?)

No luck on this one, Clementine - two small seats in the front (comfy, mind) rather than one big one.
