Hi everyone! This car is a member of our family. My father bought before I was born and I remember my childhood in it and Citroen CX. It slept about eight years in garage, cause lot of rust and was driven only once a year. The rust parts were repaired very bad in past, only hided. When I was 17 my father gave it to specialist for restore because I dont like modern cars and R4 was a choice number one :) I drove it all the year out of snow time. I made and fit a towbar for towing my 1987 tent trailer Skif M1 and mudflaps. I am planning to fit Zenith 32, buy Fergat wheels and weld rear corners, there is still covered rust, we didn´t have time to repair them. More photos of restoration are here: http://otto96.rajce.idnes.cz/Renault_4Gtl_renovace/

Hi!

Love that tent trailer that you have. I am imagining one of these in back of my car wondering around europe.

Saw many of then on Czech license plates during summer here in Croatia.
Are they available to buy in Czech? new or second hand one?

Your last picture is taken in Croatia. Can not tell where but believe it is ferry to Cres or Rab.

I could not see many R4's (actually none) from Czech Republic until now. And there are two owners in few days

Welcome to the forum - what a great car and history :¬)

Most common tent trailers in Czech are Rusian Skif M1 or younger Skif M2 and German Camptourists. Skifs were built in 80s, but it´s possible to find trailers in nice condition about 10000CZK (400Euros). My was used by first owner only three times for trip to Slovakia and stay next twenty years in garage, cost 8000Czk and I have original invoice and manual from 1987. It is also nice accessory for oldtimers meetings. Here is some Czech advertising: http://www.bazos.cz/search.php?hled...eis=25&cenaod=&cenado=&Submit=Hledat&kitx=ano or http://www.sbazar.cz/hledej/skif or on Aukro.cz (czech Ebay).

Yes, its taken on ferry from Rab. I was there with my mother for one week last summer. After that, We went to Trogir by nice road around sea Splitska magistrala for three days and finished this nice trip in Plitvička jezera. You have good scrapyards with spare parts for R4. I bought there some nice parts like good rear emblem and new stabilisator rubbers in shop in Split. Hope that I will buy more parts in Croatia this summer. I will need probably better chassic for my new project 1982 f4 and some new parts for another 1984Gtl.

Renault 4 is very rare here. Probably because communist goverment didn´t allow sales of them. I have some old handbooks from 1962 in Czech, but only one Renault 4 was officially imported. Some Renaults 4 were individualy imported here, most after 1989. My father had a few Renault 4 before 1989.

Thank you Otto96 for information about trailer.
It really is something i would like to own.....it will be enough for traveling that i am planing to make.

Some trip in 7 days you have made. That road you have driven from Rab to Split is called "Jadranska Magistrala".
Long time it was only connection between Rijeka and Zadar, Split.

I live somewhere in half way between Zadar and Split. Near town Šibenik.

If you are passing thru sometimes in the future you are welcome for drink (beer, wine, coffee, tea.....)

P.S. love that yellow color on your R4

Yes, of course, Jadranska Magistrala. Sorry for my mistake.

I stoped in Šibenik for fast sightseeing and icecream :D when I went to Trogir . Probably I will go to Trogir this July, so I will be glad to visit you and hope also your car.

I also love this colour, It was original Renault yellow twenty years ago, when my father took it for respraing from white. But now after a few years and some repairs it´s a bit lighter. I am planning to repaint all doors and rear corners after repair in the future.

My father had TL model in that bright yellow color back in 1984/85.

Not need to apologize for mistake. Just wanted to say right name of that road.

Otto, I have just browsed through your collection of restoration images and am very impressed. The rust was very bad to start with, wasn't it, but the repairs and spot welds look very good. Quite a brave job on your part.
