    Fuel additive

The mixture screw is an idle mixture control screw but it does influence low speed running too. It's handy to have something we can twiddle to get past the MOT and then set it back how we like it. Set that for best driveability. Valves don't tend to get damaged during low speed running...

Cool. I like those things. Feel free to ask questions as you go along.

    Fuel additive

The lead replacement is different from the `octane rating. Petrol has zero lead these days. Also the R4 will run fine on the lowest grade of petrol. If you are just running the car around as normal there shouldn't be any need for an additive to replace lead. These cars have valve inserts...

Oil level - dip stick reading

The end of the dipstick sits in the sump so the reading on the dipstick should never be lower than the level in the sump. It might be picking up oil from the dipstick tube as you pull it up the first time. I think the second reading will be the more reliable.

    What’s this pipe?

It's a drain for the heater box in case water gets in from the flap below the windscreen.

    Tyres

A lot of us use 145/80 R13 tyres. Plenty of decent brands in that size.

Round indicator / auxiliary headlight unit

You can get orange bulbs for the clear lens. You might need the single filament bulb holder for orange bulbs, or use orange bulb paint. I moved the sidelight to the headlamp. There's a post about how to do that in the tech tips section.

no spark.. changed everything related to the distribution/ignition and still not working!

Just in case of measurement error - continuity measurements will give false readings if the ignition is switched on.

    Oil and temp lamp lighting!

You can get the coolant light without overheating - it comes on first but only just. Check the coolant wire isn't shorting on the exhaust manifold. That would turn the light on.

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

Do the holes not line up because the mounting has moved sideways? You could try loosely fitting the bolt at the bottom and then tensioning the torsion bar until the other two line up.

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

Angel's link is well worth reading through again: https://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/threads/how-to-set-front-ride-heights.5693/#post-33719 The torsion bars are tensioned even with the suspension at full droop and the factory tool for tensioning the bar is a long bar with an octagonal head that...

    Battery light coming on intermittently

It's unusual to be intermittent and not happen at idle. Well worth measuring the battery voltage when running to see if you get 13.5V or so, and if possible tape the meter to the bonnet and see if it changes when the light comes on. That would pick up any loss of function of the alternator...

No spark, what am I missing

Continuity test doesn't work when you have voltage

No spark, what am I missing

Sounds like it should work. Is there a ground missing? Plug grounded to engine as you test and engine grounded to battery.

No spark, what am I missing

Battery should be to positive of coil not distributor.

    Blanche

Good to hear news about Blanche. Do post some photos in her new home. Bluebell bought her from Glasgow in maybe 2005 and took her to France (dept 71). She came back here after the liner seals failed and I rebuilt the engine then passed her on to Richard who fitted some other shiny bits...

    Rodeo Fuel Problem

Figured it out (I think). The fuel level in the feed pipe was falling below the pump so I was pumping air. The pump isn't even priming now when I try to start so it's going to be a bad fuel pump. Going to try replacing it with an electric fuel pump.

    Rodeo Fuel Problem

I checked the float valve and it seemed OK and I cleaned it up and blew air through just in case. Blew air through the filler cap vent hole just in case. The car seems to be working but I'm not sure I found any problem. Probably is going to be something that got stuck or something to to...
