Annoying rattles at the rear.....Any ideas????

Thanks Angel- Interesting! Given they are so thin the two thin bush sections must be fairly marginal in torsion. I assume the fat section gets clamped between the two inner brackets on each side?

Annoying rattles at the rear.....Any ideas????

....And going back to previous posts I found one from myself where soon after the bushes were "changed (????)" I applied rubber grease. But this raises the next question, for when I eventually do something and change the inner bushes- nowhere can I find any reference to lubing the...

Front Torsion Bar Tools in Australia?

Thanks Petak! Very useful site, and the Wirehead one he refers to also. I pulled the pin and bought a tool online.

Front Torsion Bar Tools in Australia?

Does anyone in Melbourne or Adelaide have the Renault (or knockoff) tools for removing and replacing front torsion bars? I'm just trying to determine what my options are for borrow/make/buy might be. My car is '68 4 speed model built late '67, so I believe it still has the bolt rather than cam...

Annoying rattles at the rear.....Any ideas????

Thank you all gentlemen! We have an answer. It seems to be principally inner torsion bar bushes with a small side helping of front shocker eyes. I initially dismissed bushes out of hand because I had had all the rear torsion bar bushes replaced- or so I thought! I started out jacking up the car...

Annoying rattles at the rear.....Any ideas????

I have been hunting these down for a while but to no avail. On each side of the car, below the rear seat, at about where the rear suspension mounts are, are two seperate rattles driven by road surfaces. They are coming from below the floor (confirmed by trusty sidekick lying on boot floor as we...

    Parts help

Hi Agarwal, there should be two plates on the firewall below the windscreen, under the bonnet. One is oval and the other is diamond shaped. If you can tell us all the numbers on these plates, or post a photo of them, then people can tell you which model and what year your car is. Likewise below...

    Grease !! Graphite or copper?

I think it's more a question of the substrate the graphite is mixed with. So don't confuse graphite grease characteristics with dry graphite.

Thanks Andy- that is a help, much appreciated!

Identifying a Solex 32 SEIA? Or EISA?????

Oh, and also rebuild kits seem applicable to both. Is that a correct assumption?

Identifying a Solex 32 SEIA? Or EISA?????

So- no answers but perhaps if I throw up a couple of suppositions someone can correct me... I think it is an SEIA. The EISA looks broadly similar but has the accelerator pump on the opposite side. The other difference, I think is that one has the external defumer valve (as this one does) but the...

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

I think when we say “weaken” we mean “settle” or deform or relax which is normal for springs and torsion bars. That changes the set or position of the torsion bar but it should not change its modulus of elasticity. In other words, you should not have to replace a torsion bar unless it cracks or...

Identifying a Solex 32 SEIA? Or EISA?????

I've got this carby and manifold off an 845 ventoux engine, either a Mk1 R5 or possibly a 1970s/early 80s R1123 R4 variant??? No ID tag, only some numbers stamped in the side. Is it an EISA, an SEIA, and what variant? Any good explanation would be greatly appreciated. Next stage, decide...

No spark, what am I missing

I'm wondering if your rubber grommet is not fully insulating- are you sure it insulates on both sides of the distributor body (inside and outside) and also insulates internally between the screw thread and the body? Could be in some positions it just touches somewhere, like if pushed down by cap...

    334 gearbox synchromesh rings

More to add to this- I have to do something about the 4th speed synchro on my 334 box. The synchro spring, part number 0555474700, has broken- probably some time ago judging by the lack of effective synchro going down from 4th to third- and a piece has now found its way to the front magnetic...

    Rodeo Fuel Problem

I would second a dodgy float valve. I've had that before. Try replacing it. Even new ones can be a little suspect.

    Continental R-Engine parts needed

Hi Mark, If my memory serves me correctly that is the engine governor. The Toro had it to keep the engine running at constant speed. I believe its a Toro or Continental part rather than a Renault part. You might find it in the Toro parts book, you see reprints of them on Ebay quite often. Cheers

New R4 EV- not as horrible as I was expecting

I really like the Fiat 500- my wife has had one for 16 years- but in a garage next to the R4it is wider, just as tall , and if you took the bumpers off the Renault, a tad longer. Internally the 4 is way bigger. But the fuel economy of the fiat is pretty good considering it’s weight. I think it’s...
