What battery you use?

Hi, greetings from Prague :) What 12V battery you have in your R4? I read in different handbooks about 12V/30-45Ah. What is the right battery capacity for the car with alternator? Pavel

Original fitted battery was 28 or 30 Ah, nut now hard to find (or not produced?) 45Ah is the smallest available now, and excellent for the R4.

I buy whatever fits. In the UK the original battery is £35, but the battery supplied for the Austin Mini is the same specification just the terminals are reversed. That costs £20. Easy - turn the battery around and the terminals are at the correct ends.

Just need to be careful to get a battery with the bit at the bottom for the battery clamp.

Hi Angel, thank you for the fast reply. So I´m going to buy the 45 Ah capacity, though the 41 Ah capacity batteries are here for sale too. I hope, the alternator will catch to replenish :) Pavel

However if you turn the battery, than one cable is too short, it isn´t?

No problem, there are some R4s here fitted with 55Ah batteries, one even has dynamo instead of alternator!
With the standard battery cables, it is possible to fit both left- and right-hand batteries, but it is very eady to lenghten the earth cable (or order the correct battery!).

The alternator won't notice the difference. You're still taking the same amount of energy from the battery on each start, but with a bigger battery it's a smaller proportion of the total capacity.

..Fab Four From Fulham..

..Morning Tim

Seeing your contribution above reminded me of the Old Fab Four from Fulham!!

I am interested in knowing how your little restoration project is going?
Have you started yet and did you ever pic up all the spares from Surrey?

If you are underway, do put up some pics as they would be an inspiration to all!!

Oh, THAT! :)
Since I got her home, I have had to spend all my spare time doing "other things" and yet more "other things" of the small and pink variety might be on the horizon soon, so I haven't made any progress yet. I have however picked up two new front wings and some other spares, so all is set.
I haven't picked up the spares from Surrey yet, waiting for the previous owner to get back to me. (I'm also still waiting for the V5 if you're reading this Andy!!)
