Hello again!
after a change of local garage + a new carburrettor, the car R4GTL 1986 is running much better and even passed its' MOT!
However, it cuts out when coming to a stop at traffic lights or slowing down at junctions etc..
Always reignites immediately, but obviously this is not ideal.
(Driving with the choke a little extended helps a little, but still cuts out on coming to a halt)
The new garage mechanic said it needs to be used for a few long journeys to flush all the rubbish out.
Does anybody on the forum have any ideas that may solve the problem?

There is a hose that connects to the inlet manifold behind the carburettor. This should have a plastic piece inside that limits the inside diameter of the hose to about 1mm to restrict airflow. I would check that is in place first as it tends to be deleted if the hose is replaced.

Do you have a Haynes Manual? Instructions for setting everything up are pretty good in there and it's touch and go finding mechanics familiar with 40 year old technology so it's worth learning. It would be easier to suggest other things to check if you are armed with the book.

Hi

The idling screw might need adjusting a tad.
+1!

If the engine cuts out on over-run (ie; when coming to a halt at lights without the accelerator being used) It maybe running weakly, so turning the mixture screw a quarter turn OUT would enrich the mixture a little. It's also possible that the engine's timing is a tad retarded, so check that as well.
