The speedo needle on my 1976 TL is bent, stopping the speedo from registering. Does the speedo unit come out leaving the plastic window in the dash? or does it have to be removed from the speedo unit?.

The speedo unit can be detached - remove the dash and the speedo is held in by hex bolts - the glass can also be removed separately (be careful not to damage the thin foam gasket). But the bent speedo needle is an endemic fault with these models and bending it back won't be a permanent solution. The only way is to cut about half an inch off the tip, which stops it fouling the speedo glass.
