Spotting!

Have been having a good amount of success Renault 4 spotting lately. First in England, whilst driving through a town south of Bath I spotted a white R4 driving towards me in my R4 lots of beeping but no come back from the white R4. A yellow R4 was spotted on the road whilst I was waiting for a train at Streatham station.

Just got back from a trip to Le Mans classic. I played a game of R4 vs 2CV with my mate, I got a point for each R4,he got a point for each 2CV, points doubled for moving cars and points also doubled for any variants. I spotted over 30 R4's (from Le Havre to Le Mans) and this including a Rodeo and a Pick Up! The pick up is sitting in a field, location marked on map. It was an easy victory for R4's over twice as many seen. Even a number at Le Mans, circuit amongst the Ferrari's, Porsche's, Maserati's and Bugatti's. Lots of other great French stuff there too.

Funny how they are all down south isn't it. Apart from my friends Robert and RenaultLove who are either based around here or visit a lot I've only ever seen one Renault 4 on the road around here. I think there was a classic rally going on and it was wearing rally plates. Whiteish one I think.

Cool to see them on the road though. I've had good success waving at 2CVs and anything else a little old or odd.

No idea how you managed 30 R4s on the way to Le Mans. Guess you didn't take the direct route. I've only seen one on the autoroute. Oddly it looked like a mini from a very long way off.

No we took the scenic route as was driving a 1930s Riley down there. Most of the R4's were parked rather than driving.

So I've now set a challenge to you all to surpass the 30 R4 I've spotted! I'll be back in France in September to try and beat my target.

Is there a set time limit for spotting the R4s and is this challenge open to those of us who live here in France? :D

That said I think we've seen all the R4s in our area - well into double figures I think but we've not really been counting.

Anyone who comes to visit us will get at least 2 and the bloke down the road has another one in his garage.

Claude van Rouge (nice van and blue sky), next time you go on a drive count them. I would think I averaged one R4 every 6 miles, or say 10 km on that eagle eyed trip! So look to beat that ratio. 2cv's I would say are one every 20 miles or 30 km. I guess different regions would vary. In England I guess I have averaged one R4 about every 1,500 miles!

So here is the game for you to play (have changed the points for R4 expert level).

1 point = R4
2 points = R4 fougonette.
10 points = early R4 with chrome.
10 points = R4 rodeo
50 points = R4 4x4 (Sinpar)
50 points = R4 pick up
100 points = R4 Parisienne

any others!?!

all doubled if moving! all points x 50 if in England!

Matt

The handbrakes are fine but the Claude (the F4) failed his CT on one of the rear brakes (a leaking wheel cylinder). Hopefully all fixed now but we'll find out at the contre-visite

The Blanche the TL sailed through, but she should have done, she only passed her MOT in February.

We're getting them both CT'd so that they can get their french nationality :)

Gentlemen-Gentlemen!!

Hi all-No wonder all 4's I see around seems to wander and swerve all over the road if you are busy counting me approaching! I find it necessary to issue a WARNING of such behaviour...I find this practice utterly risque and unsafe...

I can't see you are seriously suggesting me counting
all 4's ...IN addition to watching my little gas-stove not boiling over spreading sausages and stuff all over

-sitting as it is on the passenger-side under the shelf it can be hard to watch at all times-In addition cutting a few loafs
of bread and smearing strawberry-jam on them without the lid of the strawberryjam-jar falling off the dashboard wher the coffe-cup balances is hard enough -and now you want me to count 4's too...
Seriously!!!

I'll give you one free tip though-Roffen the F4 will be on
tour to the 2.nd reunion de R4 at Loheac just S. of Rennes
early Oct. -IF counted I take a 10% count-cut,I trust you
to keep me in the loop!

-Anyone else going to Loheac?? -if you are DO say Hello
and let yourself be known to Roffen the Beige F4
-I think we need a 'secret' sign of recognizing each other
Any suggestions?? -R.

MGUEZ spotted me while i was out and about on sunday hes not sure how many points to score for my Yellow Peril ???
personally i have been practising taking photos whilst driving as well (off road of course officer )

tempted by Loheac myself do they forecast rain ?
think Bison and his friend from scotland are travelling a long way down for it too

secret sign - we will all have our Clementine stickers on cars and t shirts even

Hi there mr-reno!
Weatherforecast says typically R4weather
slight warm breeze from front when moving.
Gusts of tailwind when overtaken by crazed Audi...

-Hope to see you all there! -R.

MGUEZ would score lots of points there. Is your car a 'special'? Think 'specials' would be 40 points plus times 50 for England then times two for moving....Hmmmm, not sure my point scoring works.

would it get extra points for the chrome love handles and it used to be a van but now registered with DVLA as a pickup

while i was out driving home south down A23 (SUNDAY)did actually spot fairly tatty white GTL heading north - much waving from me (hard work flashing headlamps with old style lightswitches ) didnt catch if i got a response maybe they were thinking WTFT
