Prior to departing into the depths of the National Health Service for some time, (i've recently been released on good behaviour), I foolishly put a tenner of diesel in my tank, my mind was elsewhere, and then found that my stay with the NHS had been brought forward somewhat due to circumstances beyond my control.
Upon my return home, I found the 'Pornmobile', thanks Malcolm, looking slightly dejected and forlorn, with flat tyres and an even flatter battery!
After a week and a half of staring at her through the protective barrier of the window, I couldn't stand it anymore and pumped up the tyres, at least that way she'd look a little bit more dignified, just for the sheer hell of it I stuck the key in the ignition, pulled the choke out and lo and behold, into life she sprang! All be it with a smoke cloud that covered the greater part of North Yorkshire, couldn't help myself, just had to see if the rear wheels which were stuck on, due to the handbrake being left on, doh, would free with a little 'gentle' persuasion! They did, so as I type this, both my R4 and myself are on the up, both in need of a current mot and some body restoration, (i'm currently weighing up wether to remain a la Duncan Goodhew or to regrow the barnet fair), but otherwise ticking over nicely.
Long hard road ahead but thanks to all those who wished me well, thank you.
Now i'm looking forward to getting the R4 back on the road.
Cheers one and all.

Rudi.

Good to have you back Rudi!

Let us know how many miles to the gallon you get out of the diesel - might be a bit smoky but I'm sure you get more burnables per litre than you get from petrol.

Glad to have you back Rudi. Roll on some more of that Yorkshire humour - and please don't take that engine and gearbox out again :)

Hi Rudi
as one of the first people i spoke to on the forum ,you have got a great sense of humour even when you told me of your health problems
i made a point of reading your previous posts going back to 2006 and if i had found this site sooner would like to of helped you out with your fun and games with the auto 1397 5engine
still none of it got you down and wish you all the best for future

cheers paul
ps diesel wont do any harm just a bit smokey

I have been away for a little while as well. The R4 still serves me well, even though it took a Renault main dealer 6 (six) hours to suss out a knackered condenser whilst I was still in Switzerland. I have been running around like an idiot since I came back to sunny Palma. What I have read here though is really interesting, though. Arte you seriously telling me that these things can run on a mix and/or crossfuel? I know that they are tough little buggers, but I did not know that they are that tough!!

I'm in the process of getting her re-moted (!), new ball joints up front and rear brake shoes, (anyone know of a decent garage oop North that'll do the work?), as my wife's decided that she'd love to drive her.
I'm currently running around in a Rav4 that a mate bought me, automatic everything's so much easier when you're recovering from months of doing nothing!
As far as I can tell the diesel doesn't appear to have had any adverse effect on her, and i'll let you know what the consumption is once she's back on the road.

Rudi.

Glad you are back on the road. If the car runs well on diesel try it on chip fat, I hear its a Yorkshire speciality!
