I’m sure my question is a thread discussion before but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. What are all options/components to troubleshoot for over heating? I have a 1987 R4TL made in Spain. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Some ideas:
- Faulty thermostat?
- Faulty radiator sensor/connections to sensor? (I'm assuming your TL has the radiator just behind the grille). Is the fan coming on when it should?
- Air in cooling system? (bleeding the system would be a good place to start).
- Sludge in system? (is the expansion chamber clean?)
- Is the timing out? Retarded timing can cause overheating.
- If the coolant is boiling in the expansion chamber, there's probably a head gasket problem.
- Binding brakes/wrongly adjusted handbrake?
- Slack belt?
- Faulty water pump?
