Restoring my 1988 R4 GTL in BiH

unfortunatly this metallic paint was not varnished, and they don't age well as you can see on my 87 :(

I think the biggest problem was that seams were not sealed at all, there was not much to weld last time, only minor things.

In your opinion should I go with the 428 or 485? :)

I think maybe it would be good to spray some of your old rusty panels each colour, if you can do that.

Then you can look at them side by side and you will know which you prefer.

I think the bleu orage (as long as this is what I think it is), is slightly better

I think this is more to do with the workmanship and maintenance than the properties of the colour itself.

PS Did all 1987 GTLs not come with Fergat wheels?

Can't make up my mind on the color... We are into engine assembly and the new pistons have this arrow, according to the Haynes manual the arrow should point to the flywheel but in this case I can not see how that would be possible?

I always wonder why my GTL has not the Fergat wheels AND the tubes at the extremities of the front wings (the front wings also haven't got the studs for the fitting ???)

The car you show is like mine: no Fergat wheels ??...

Sometimes I heard that Renault had old stocks of these rims and use them on the first Clans until they were completely empty, this could be a reason why they disappear few times after the introducing of the Clan models...

I think the Renault 4 pictured without the fergat wheels was a later model, though I am not sure as I can't read french registration plates.

I think the discontinuation of fergat wheels on the GTL coincided with the cessation of R4 production at Billancourt in the late 1980's.

It is a shame as I think the fergat wheels are nicer and more timeless than the plain GTL wheels.

I think it should indicate direction of rotation (clockwise when viewing from timing chain end). These are modern reproduction pistons, so it is worth checking with Aprotec before fitting them (www.aprotec.fr).

Just out of curiosity, were they expensive to obtain?

Work on the engine continues :) I wish you all a Happy New Year!

I the last moment we saw this crack on the sprocket. I can't tell you how hard was it to get it of but in the end we won. The new one was not exactly the same but that didn't stop us, we used the lathe to machine off the teeth.
