Our handbook (1989) says to change the air intake position when the ambient temperature reaches +5°C - but this seems to be a little cool to me. Perhaps, as you have discovered, trial and error is the best way to set it!

I think I may have answered some of my own questions - it dawned on me late last night that the main difference (only difference?) between the Girling cylinders and the Bendix is the type of fitting - Girling 10mm Bendix 3/8ths - mine seems to be 3/8ths. Chris

Hi Steve We only got the car a couple of months ago and up to that time it had only done about 3000 miles in the previous year - so it looks like it probably did lots of short journeys. And it did live in Glasgow where it's always cold and wet!!! Chris

I'm in the process of changing the oil in Blanche and have found white sludge under the oil filler cap and in the breather hose. The oil I've drained out of the car seems fine with no traces of the white sludge in it or in the oil filter. Is this something serious like a head gasket :eek: - or...
