Is it an indicator for when the glow plugs are on? Most plugs seem to stay on (or partly on) to help engine warm-up, in the background. I have assumed it's diesel !! :confused:

Rubber can also perish with Ozone oxidation, which is harder to figure out. I bought a new tank hose and filler cap washer which perished and split within 6 mths, OUTSIDE the petrol area like Malcolm's mention above, due to ozone oxidation I conclude.

I see photos with a dog in them and wonder what the dog was thinking - the people are keeping it company :laughing: I think I am a dog-person!

Closing the choke when parking the car may reduce condensation in the cylinders where valves are open when it stops, making the petrol/air mixture easier to fire up initially.

If it runs nicely after it has run for a short while, then the semi-empty filter may be a red herring. Slow initial starting was a problem with mine - the fuel managed to disappear out of the carburettor after it had sat for a while - I think it was evaporating from the float chamber. The...

If bimetallic strip is touching the case and shorting out when in use, testing it when disconnected may not show the short.
