Here it is, my R4 :)

Well done Nik - you seem to be using several rooms in your house to rebuild your engine :clapping: Best of luck, that was unfortunate with the cracks in your first Alpine engine :(

Drilling holes in footwells - to give water somewhere else to go.

I did that on both sides in desperation, but it was always going to be a bodge. Where I drilled (at the footwells front) went though a double skin it felt like, which is not good for keeping rust away. Water didn't come in that I noticed, maybe because when it rained, the floor was always...

How to clean Headlight interiors - Should you, any no no's?

I've not tried R4 headlight reflector cleaning, but have found other reflectors can be very delicate, and scratch with a finger-touch. Those were more modern though :ashamed:

    Water Temperature Gauge

Agreed, 100 degrees is not actually the usual boiling point in a radiator (pressurised and/or impure water boils at a lot higher temperature). At 10psi above atmospheric pressure (well within reason in a car cooling system), the boiling temperature is 115 degrees centigrade, probably higher when...

    Floor pan design

Is this any use? Only floor diagrams I can find in my books. Shows the pressed patterns faintly anyway. This manual published by Renault is now for sale on ebay: item number 264768237847 .

    Petrol additives.. Consensus?

R4's were bred on much lesser fuel though, weren't they ? More like 92/95 octane?

    Petrol additives.. Consensus?

After quite a lot of research this year into additives for my Reliant Scimitar GTE, 1973 - I agree with Jnr-Renospeed - the Millers VSPE Power Plus seems most highly regarded. The octane booster just reduces the possibility of knocking, so fine to use. If you have worries about the fuel...

Currently dog-sitting our lovely 3-yr-old Foxhound(?)/rescue girl who's had her leg sawn off and bolted back on to fix a cruciate ligament break :eyepatch: Up at 2.30am this morning because (very surprisingly) she started playing with our collie (18 mths) - now 3 days after the op, she is over...

    Are resistors needed?

Can of worms right there :worms Unregulated brightness of LED bulbs that dazzle or confuse traffic? Traffic is bl88dy easy to confuse, let's face it.

    Are resistors needed?

Use no resistors, they are just a burden on the system. Resistors used with after-market LED bulbs are only for fooling the in-car computers that the (filament) bulb is still unbroken. LED bulbs usually consume far less power (Watts) than the filament bubs they replace - the computers...
