    Affixing Front Window sliding latch

I found the window catch issue solved finally by using some Crystal Epoxy glue - such as in the photo. Was still attached after more than a year. Not as invisible as the superglue, but it does work - unlike the others.

    F4 fuel problem

Have found that the Ethanol now added to fuel does create gel which clogs stuff up. I second ecurb.renots above.

    What I am doing!

They only re-expand slowly, and the rounded shock end would only penetrate the ribcage a short distance, so all good.....

Renault 18 engine conversion to fit a Renault 4

Just from interest, does not the 1397cc include the combustion chamber volume, - the 1397cc is not just the swept cylinder volume?

    best oil for the job

That's an intriguing idea, but I just looked up Wikipedia (sometimes more trustworthy than our lovely politicians), and they say: "Nearly all commercial motor oils contain additives, whether the oils are synthetic or petroleum based. Essentially, only the American Petroleum Institute (API)...

    best oil for the job

TOTAL Lubricants says: "Under optimal conditions (stored in the original, unopened containers at moderate temperatures), motor oil usually remains stable for an extended period of time. There should not be deposits on the bottom of the container. You cannot redissolve the deposits by simply...

    best oil for the job

Stored for millions of years, yes, but since then treated and with other chemicals added which can degrade and separate out of the oil itself, making the oil unsuitable for it's designed purpose.

    best oil for the job

yourmechanic.com says: "If you have stored the motor oil in a cool, dark place and it has not passed the expiry date, you could use it. However, you must check it carefully for its consistency. If it is thick and sticky, and has solid or gel-like particles, do not use it. If you see that the...

Renault 4 accident on the road

The reserve seemed to have disappeared when I checked on it a few minutes before the end of auction. If anyone here knows who did buy it, I have some spares etc if they want them.

Renault 4 accident on the road

Ironic that one can keep the only part of the car that caused it to be written off !!! Why throw away the perfect good chassis.... duh!

Renault 4 accident on the road

In this post, mr-reno-139 said that chassis number was both on the body and chassis of a Renault 4, so it seems unlikely now that either the body or chassis could leave Copart with a new owner. Everything else that unbolts can of course be salvaged, though - engine, doors, wheels etc etc.

Renault 4 accident on the road

It is strange, but probably only if you claim through an insurer, as I did. I don't think it matters whether I had claimed through my own or the other driver's insurance, either way the relevant insurer would have assessed the car for cost and extent of damage, and it then would have been...
