    Cam Distributor Shaft Replacement

Don't forget on the early engines the oil pressure sensor and temperature sensor share the same warning light. A short on the temperature sensor wire can cause all sorts of worry - it runs close to the exhaust and will burn through and short if it touches. Though if removing the oil sensor...

    334 gearbox synchromesh rings

I didn't think 1st gear had synchro. Mine doesn't seem to while my 2nd gear feels like it used to have synchro.

Fitted a new fuel pump at the weekend. I was having to crank the engine for a long time to get fuel to the float chamber but the new one has improved that. They don't give you much space for a spanner. After trying all my special shape spanners I ended up using a small ratchet and socket...

    Gearbox Noise

Just a thought- the gear lever bush looks not standard. Does it make any difference if you push or pull the gear lever a little?

    Gearbox Noise

Then something has come out of place. Gears rubbing against the edge of other gears when they should not. The top cover can be unbolted with the gearbox still on the car. You should be able to see if anything is touching. Or could be something fell into the hole on top of the bell...

    Gearbox Noise

I've not heard that before. What are you doing to cause the noise - is the car at idle? If it's at idle out of gear it's only the input shaft spinning. Possibly the noise is caused by a failure of the springs in the clutch plate.

    Tyre Sizes?

I use 145/80 13 tyres. Makes the speedometer more accurate while still under-reading.

    Gearbox switch

I've seen an earth point there. It's just a plug with a terminal attached. Never seen anything connected to it so maybe something to support some country specific option.

    Air Leak?

There is supposed to be a restrictor in the breather hose that connects to the manifold. Worth checking you have that or blank off that hose and see if it makes a difference. Which engine do you have?

I went out for a drive this morning. Seems to sit at 80C and the maximum temperature at full load was 85C. Before it would overheat at full load. Had to modify the gear lever bracket again as the mounting studs were too far to one side causing the end of the gearlever to slip off the lever...

My radiator arrived. It is made from aluminium and slightly wider than the original radiator and is the same one you can buy direct from China (offer them £200) . The extra width is on the right side where there is plenty of space so is good to have. It seems quite well made but there was...

Not really a Renault (Dacia Duster) but you might be able to help: washer bottle gunk

I use a Tesco pre-mix screen wash. Seems fine with nothing growing in the washer bottle. In the past I have had stuff growing in the washer bottle so another vote for trying a different washer fluid (and never topping it up with plain water in the summer).

My longest trip so far - 110km in 30C temperature to pick up a pallet truck and it went very well. I think the Rodeo is becoming reliable now. I was keeping it to 80km/h and the temperature gauge was sitting at 100C all the way but no water came out this time. I ordered the new radiator a...

    Billancourt engine Radiator needed

I'm not very impressed so far. I think they are out of stock like everyone else. When I asked they said they had sent it, then when I asked for a tracking number they said they are awaiting it from their supplier. Annoying as on top of the 2 weeks since the order I'll need to wait another...

    Billancourt engine Radiator needed

I've got one on the way. Will report back how it goes. Though pricy. https://www.demarcoparts.com/en/cooling-heating-systems/22580-aluminum-cooling-radiator-for-renault-4-845cc.html

Sounds like yours is working well already. My distributor wasn't working very well at all. You probably wouldn't get much vacuum advance on cruising on an 850 engine as cruising will have quite a big throttle opening. I think that's a trick for larger engines. I wonder how much speed I...

I went out onto a dual carrageway to tune the high rpm and it turns out the Rodeo is sensitive to timing after all. If you get to the sweet spot of precisely 28 degrees at 4000rpm (90km/h) it'll start accelerating again. My new speed record is 95km/h and it'll sit at 90km/h on full load...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

I've been out tuning this afternoon and have come to the conclusion that the 747cc (680) engine isn't all that sensitive to timing. There will be a timing setting at each rpm that gives maximum torque. On a modern or tuned engine you'll get into a position where you get into detonation...

    Hello all,

Yes photos! It would be good to see the conversion. If you have all the RHD parts then everything is ambidextrous apart from the bulkhead which will need some bits welding on in the RHD style.

    Fitting a cheap temperature gauge

Not sure what the thermostat is. It's a new one. Car idles at 80C so probably about that. EDIT> It's a Gates part opening at 83C. I think it's a lack of cooling capacity as the radiator is 50 years old and maybe a bit blocked. I think the water pump is OK as the interior heater runs...
