Ah rule of thumb with a starter motor on a left hand drive car is to always always always replace the starter motor with a new one once you've managed to extract it! Bloody hard work to get them out isn't it?

Is it broke? If it isn't don't fix it!!! Give it a full service, make sure you have spares like points, rotor arm and distributor cap, and off you go. The engines that have given me most trouble in my life are where they've been rebuilt, if I can I always try and buy a second hand engine...
