    Stopping on a sixpence

Addendum- Looking back at this, I fitted a dual circuit (3 output) master cylinder, to turn my early single circuit into a dual circuit car, but because early cars needed an outlet to fit a brake light switch which the later cars don't have, fitting that switch used up the extra outlet hole...

    Stopping on a sixpence

First of all, I believe you have dual circuit brakes. Three outlets means one to the rear brakes and two to the front brakes. The two outlet cylinders (one to the front, one to the rear) are for much earlier single circuit cars. Some two circuit cars have four outlets, two to front, two to...

    Lost Renault4 Van key!

A locksmith ought to be able to cut a new key if he can fiddle with an example of the lock. Are all the doors and ignition the same key?

    Billancourt variations

Sorry, I'm on a roll here. Just found the same site has the following page that goes through all the terminology (for 750/4cv/dauphine variations only) but you get the gist. http://www.4cv-renault.com/technique/ac/ac.html Going back to the other table, I think they have conflated the french...

    Billancourt variations

Ah ha! (well, sort of...) I found this site and in some ways it tallies up very well with the above and in others it just misses. http://www.4cv-renault.com/technique/tabmot/tabmot.html The table there lists all the Billancourt variations but lists Renault 6 without an 800 dash number, but it...

    Billancourt variations

Thanksvery much for the cam data Angel. I think I saw some valve lift data on a French site years ago, I might go looking and see what I can dig up.

    Gearbox 354 bearings

If someone can define the difference in dimensions and features and show the mating parts I would be prepared to consider getting a batch modified (in slow time).

    Head lining

If you don't need an entire one (e.g. if you only replace a section between two seams) you can buy the original material from ENPI in France and get a motor trimmer to sew in a replacement section. Note they only transact their business in French. See below for a link for the 1960's vinyl with...

    Head lining

I have bought a replacement fabric liner from der franzose which looks fantastic- it uses the correct diamond pattern vinyl cloth which is available by the metre from one or two vendors in France- but I haven’t stumped up the courage yet to fit it. Got to combine job with bashing out some roof...

Hey Angel, re the 800-01 and the 800-05, did the camshaft change between them?

    Rodeo Recommissioning

Yikes! Definitely not for wheel bearings.... Are there any part numbers engraved on them? Would be interesting to see what they were.

Fuel vent pipe / vented fuel cap

Meant to say not an issue with cap not venting, cap unlikely to seal and not a way it can happen. Would be caused more if tank vent blocked so worth checking the vent line is clear between tank and pipe. But there is still a way it can happen as outlined above.

Fuel vent pipe / vented fuel cap

it's a known problem. If you have a pocket of air trapped at top of tank on the LH side rear, i.e. RH side is lower, there is no air vent outlet on the LH side so as the air pocket expands it pushes the fuel up the filler pipe out of the cap. Avoid it by ensuring RH side is higher if you park...

    Water pump issues

Melun and Franzose have them, in worst instance they can be overhauled if the casing and impeller isnt too corroded

Anyone tried a Zenith 28if on an 850cc engine?

I have a 28IF off a GTL on my 68 model 845, and been running it since 2001. Initially ran it without any emission type gear but it would fart smoke randomly so eventually hooked up a semblence of mid-70's-early eighties breather arrangement and orifice and it seems better behaved. I ended up not...

Parts arrived and look great. Thanks!

Have I bought a Tl or GTL

The plain doors are much less rust prone than those with GTL trim which are a bad water and salt trap- If it was down to me I would be leaving all those trim panels off.

Good info- between that and Angel's advice should be able to work something out.

    Carb identification

Haynes manual for Renault R5 mk 1 shows this as the Solex 32 EISA and the flap is the defuming valve. Having said that, I believe some late model French spec R4s did have them.
