Or, if we think this is what is going on, move the four outer (plug) ignition leads around on the dizzy by 180 degrees, which means swap each opposite pair of leads...

There's an even simpler way of checking- with No 1 cylinder supposedly at TDC remove the spark plug from no 1 cylinder and with ignition OFF, hold your thumb over it, then turn the engine over slowly either by turning the fanbelt pulley, fan hub, or having it in gear and pushing the car forward...

I think de Carbon are still de Carbon but they are owned by Delphi. The factory when I last visited is near Nice. They do the R4 de Carbon shocks in batches each year and they are very quickly sold out over the summer holidays when everyone gets a set and fixes their R4 over the holidays. People...

On the contrary, I would say.... A lot of wear and replacement parts simply wouldn't be in production if it wasn't for the trophy every year. A good example is the de Carbon shocks, another is driveshafts, the the list goes on- A solid market for spares, bought by people like youing engineering...

I seem to recall 4CVs had kingpins and grease lube, so not that. Also pretty sure the same with dauphine. It may be from an estafette????

You could try Loctite 290 Wick-in. It is commonly used for porosity in cylinder blocks and heads as a treatment on new thin wall engine castings by the car manufacturers. With a clean dry casting off the engine apply the loctite- it will get sucked into porous castings due to the surface...

Another thing is if you have no other way of determining you are at correct TDC or 180 degrees out is unscrew the no 1 spark plug and put your finger over the hole while the engine (with ignition off) being turned over by hand. You'll feel the compression/air coming out as it comes up to TDC...

Nice pile of bits! I see you got Michelin 145/80 x 13 tyres- are they still listed by Michelin in their catalogue there? I can't seem to find them in their online one.

I recommend the conductive silver paint- we used to use it in our lab at work and I was allowed to borrow it occasionally- fixed the heated screens on a Renault 16 and a Peugeot 505- no problem!

One thing that can happen is that either the outer OR the inner joints run out of grease/thick renault oil because a lot of it has either leaked out through a hole in the boot or because the worm drive clips (on the inners) are loose or just not seating properly. As the existing grease gets hot...

I think a good early R4 is probably worth more in Australia, if anything. But the market of buyers will be a lot smaller.

The black numbers are paint code 412 (Ile de France blue) and I believe upholstery (S1 is a woven cloth salt and pepper with maybe a faint blue tinge to it according to my somewhat faded manual))
