There's some crazy stuff on Twitter

He's a member of the Dutch R4-club. He still has to have the car passed through the inspection, to be able to legally take it to the roads. He did a really great job in modifying that machine, way better than that monstrous 4L3000 or that horrible thing I saw on leboncoin a few threads on top...

    John's Workshop

Good luck with it! I'll be happy to follow you and your work in this thread! First restorationthread that I see that starts with a way worse car than mine!

What makes you love your Renault 4?

The car just has a lot of character. Since mine has been disassembled for most of the time I have it, I haven't really had the time to get used to driving it so maybe it's hard to say for me what attracts me to the car. The thing is that driving an R4 is just an experience on it's own. It...

hello, can anybody help please ?t

Sure! That's your tie bar eye. It's a wel known part for failing MOT's. It's also just a part that has to be replaced every now and then, because it just wears out in time. Der Franzose in Germany's got it on stock: http://www.franzose.de/en/Renault/R4/Vorderachse/ANR83029/ But I'm...

    R4 Gumball 3000 2011

True, don't really think it's very tastefull either. And by the way: doesn't make too much sense to sandblast the whole thing and only then begin with assembly, welding etc. only to have the whole thing rusted over again, does it?

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Guys, thanks for the nice words! The welding on the body is almost finished. I still have to do the wheelarches (started with one today), one windowsill that needs a new liner and one fenderattachment (minor holes). Additionally I have to fill up some small holes. Probably still 2 or 3 days...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey guys, thanks for the nice comments! And Azazello, remember: I'm also only a beginner, only just "learned" to weld, so you should be able to manage I guess right?! Tomorrow I'll continue work! Hope to weld in those two parts and finish some parts on the front. I'll keep you updated...

What have I done! (R4 GTL)

Nice! Wish you very much luck with it. Also look at my thread, since I've been doing (and am busy doing) lots of the repairs you will have to do aswell, so my trial and errors may help you find your way in your restoring process!

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

And some more 1 With the sillpart in place, but still need to grind off a little bit of that and then weld it in place. 2 The other side of the car, same problems, same treatment. 3 Some of my first welding I did on the frontside of the car. There's holes burned in the sheetmetal that still...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Been a long long time! Been quite busy the last months, it's been awfully cold and I had some things on my mind. Nevertheless, I haven't been sitting around doing nothing, though progress has been slow. The chassis has been put aside for now and the body's being taken care of (as in the sense...

What have I done! (R4 GTL)

As you might notice from Maciek's reply, your chassis isn't that bad at all ;). Actually quite okayish ;).

What have I done! (R4 GTL)

I wouldn't worry too much about those sidemembers. I've seen way worse sidemembers by now. I don't think they're rusted out from the inside (after all, you would notice on the outside since the sheetmetal used is so thin it'd rust through in a blink of an eye as soon as it'd start to rust). My...

    R4 restoration made in France

Hey Alexandre, I've got a question: I see you fitted the brake lines before you put on the body, and thus the master brakecilinder. How did you know where the brakelines had to be? Or wil you join the last ends on later with joints? Regards, Rutger.

What have I done! (R4 GTL)

Doesn't look too bad! My chassis' (both of them) were way worse and my body is also worse! So it's definitely worth restoring this car. I wish a lot of luck with it! Regards, Rutger.

information needed for special R4 restauration

Hey, since you say you can use all help and are Dutch, maybe the Dutch R4-forums can help you too!? I'm actually currently restoring an R4 myself in the Netherlands (I'm Dutch myself and also a student) but that's just a regular GTL. Anyway, the link to the Dutch forums is: www.r4club.nl...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

I sometimes have my doubts too. For instance: I don't know for sure if it will be big enough for a test-drive... ah well, it'll probobly be big enough. Ghehe... But thanks!

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey guys, Today I put on some more anti stonechip. I made sure I covered everything on the underneath and the suspension parts. I'd rather have an ugly layer of sticky mess underneath my chassis than a nice surface that wears off in 500 miles on the road so I put on that ugly sticky mess ;)...
