    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

And still some more pictures. I'd like to put some subscripts to the pictures but I was told to upload them through the forum, which will guarantee they will stay online, unlike when you upload them with imageshack or the like. I'll do that but it's a pity I can't make some desciptions that way...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey all, Since I've been a lazy host, all my apologies for that. I've been making progress and my chassis is kind of rolling now, in a sense that it rolls but that's it. I still have to install the anti-roll bars, rear shock absorbers as well as some other things. I'm trying not to...

New Chassis Are Being Made !!!!!

Very good points. But especially post E makes me wonder. Wouldn't it be a good idea to first give the importing of those Columbian chassis a good try? Thus looking for ways to do that and have a look at what that would cost. Apparently they are still manufactured, then why go through all the...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Thanks all for the compliments! @ David: Well noticed! Someone on the Dutch R4 forum also told me it would be in the way. Basically, we forgot to take off that part of the edge and we ended up this way. We figured it would be no problem but it turns out it will indeed. We'll probably cut...

Haha thanks, we were very proud of it ourselves too ;).

New Chassis Are Being Made !!!!!

Well... I think fabricating, shipping and selling a chassis without the floor is not a possibility for several reasons. I don't know if you have been working with R4chassis yourself? I'll explain: The floor in the R4chassis is an integral part of the chassis. Without the floor, the...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Okay, so where was I? Last post I did was about getting the new chassis. Well, I've been quite busy in the meantime. I took off the remaining part of the body and also took the inner wings off of that part with a blowtorch. The chassis is now almost totally clean, all the sludge on...

    Gordini Head Gasket and Investigation

You've got a lot of back luch=k with newly restored cars and their first rides! Ermintrude also took a direct hit right after the restoration right? Well, a windscreen is easy to replace luckily. Good luck!

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

And still some more pictures: The painted parts The spare engine The two bonnets: notice how the lower part of the first bonnet (the light one) is bent forward, probably through bad hinges or so; somebody pushed through a bit and the bonnet bent. Han, the man who sold me this and...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hi all, It's been quite a while since I last posted something. For you guys who think I gave up or have been enjoying the sun in some sort of far off country: you are wrong! Instead I've been sweating my ass off, grinding and brushing off rust, paint and all sorts of stuff that you...

    Hello from Klingenberg/Germany

Haha oh, hadn't seen that one, only the video! ;) PS: Und ein Zündapp. Haha, also have a Zündapp still standing in the shed at my parent's place (GTS50 from 1977).

    rusted-out chassis units-easily avoided

But this is not a new thing right? You guys must have heard about Mike Sander grease? Or Owatrol? Basically the same thing. Mike Sander grease is a grease rather than oil though. Using engine oil or diesel oil is just a cheaper way (though doesn't mean a worse way) of doing this right?

    R4 restoration made in France

Wow, that's a very precise way of working! That's the proper way to do a good restoration I guess. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how to remove that ring :(. Hope somebody else will be able to tell you that. Is it not stretchy, so it will stretch over the thicker part?

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hmm, makes sense indeed. But I have yet to have someone teach me how to use the painting facilities at the place I do the restoration, so I can't immediately paint it. Besides that, brushing pieces with a wire brush is quite time-consuming and the paintgun needs cleaning and so, so we figured it...

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey guys, Been cleaning parts today. I am trying to get the suspension parts in the paint probably monday or tuesday. Next week I'll probably also bring the new chassis, as well as get some new parts. I got a question, which is: what is the sensible way to take apart the rear axle...

    R4 restoration made in France

Nice job! I think the bodies of both our cars kind of resemble eachother regarding the condition they're in. Good luck on this one!

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey Angel, Thanks for the explanation. But I already succeeded (as I mentioned in the above post ;)). The problem was actually that pin-nut which wouldn't get loose. In the end I clamped the pin by pushing both sheetmetal parts another side and then using the impact wrench. It got loose...

I think it would really help if you post some photographs of the spots you are referring to! :)

    Restoration 1984 R4 GTL Rutger-peer

Hey! Was thinking about using Mike Sander grease inside the chassis so I guess that should do the trick ;). By the way, has anyone got any advice about how to take the torsion bar from the front suspension parts? The other side came off easily but this one is stuck. Put a screwdriver in the...
