    Rodeo Recommissioning

It's common to use plastic cages on low noise spec bearings. Certainly not suitable for wheel bearing application, though. I have seen them on gearbox input shafts on many modern cars, where it's very common to fail in exactly the same way as yours.

    Seat bases too high

That's right, I think they are meant to be removed when driver is tall, along with seat belt repositioning on the B-pillars.

Not sure what the problem is...Any help would be appreciated

Check that, when the problem exists, 12 volts are reaching to starter motor solenoid when you turn the key to "start" position. This is the thin wire of the starter. If not, problem is either ignition switch itself, or wiring to starter motor. If you get 12V there, starter motor brushes are...

    Piston Arrangement

Pistons 3 and 4 have been assembled incorrectly, arrow should be pointing towards flywheel on all cylinders. Cylinder numbering starts from flywheel end on these engines. Connecting rod should also be fitted in relation to pistons in such a way that cap is towards camshaft (big ends are slant on...

    Tailgate support arm geometry

It should normally fold without having to "help" it, by just pulling the tailgate downwards. If it doesn't, chack that the pivot between the two arms is not sloppy, and also that the tailgate arm has not dug a groove at the spring loaded arm, where they meet each other. Correct way of refitting...

Using a R4 engine in a Dauphine Gordini

We had discussed this topic some times in the past. It's true Dauphine engine rotates clockwise as viewed from rear (timing gear) end, while R4 and R5 Ventoux engines rotate the opposite way. To make such an engine fit, almost everything except for the block, head and sump needs to be replaced...

Anyone tried a Zenith 28if on an 850cc engine?

OK, so it's a vacuum operated enrichment device, similar to those fitted on many other vehicles. I had seen a 28IF with an accelerator pump on a FASA 1108 R4 but not this arrangement.

Anyone tried a Zenith 28if on an 850cc engine?

They should have it, according to the parts book. I have never come across such an early car, though. A friend of mine has a 1972 R4 equipped with the later B1B engine with the Zenith 32IF7 carburettor. I always get outpaced when I drive my 28IF equipped R4 along hers, despite my engine being...

Anyone tried a Zenith 28if on an 850cc engine?

Most 845 cars I take care of, including both my 845 R4s, are equipped with the 28IF carburettor. It performs well in general, its drawbacks are the main jet position which leads to clogging if the float chamber has collected sediment - common with modern fuel - and the tendency for the float...

Have I bought a Tl or GTL

It's probably a GTL and doors have been replaced (the rear windows are non opening, as on the basic version which was always 845cc). As far as I know, neither the basic version or the later TL Savane were available in RHD. Does the oval plate read 1128 (GTL) or 1123 (TL)?

    Differential Cap Advice

Tapered bearings are always matched pairs regarding their two parts. Therefore you have to use the outer race that was on the gearbox - the one on the damaged cap. It's not easy to remove it from the cap without damaging it. Fit is not particularly tight but there is nowhere to tap or press on...

    Trying to remove a door

Look for a nut at the top hinge pin, too. If you remove the arrowed clevis pin and move the mechanism away, there is nothing more holding the door. This door holding mechanism was never fitted on any R4 but its body fixing plates don't look like an amateur fitting. Was your car an ex- La...

    R5 indicator stalk on a later r4?

Switch functions are exactly the same. I haven't checked if terminal positions correspond, too. Switch on the first post is from a Super 5 but this should also be the same regarding functions.
