Picking up new baby this weekend !

Hello SnowWhite, welcome to the forum. Your 4 looks great, and although I like a bit of bling, an original condition car is good too. As has been said, it's all a matter of taste, and you can add or take away bits and bobs as you go. Try to avoid reproduction parts as the quality isn't there...

    Hesitant when accelerating

Hi Eccles60, it might need a clean as your garage suggested, and you could try some carburettor cleaner sprayed into the inlet with the engine revving a bit. It just might dislodge some dirt. Remove the air cleaner to do this. Also you could try tightening the two nuts that hold the carb on, as...

    The "Mucca" disassembling and restoration

Very hi-tech Leonardo, I'm looking forward to seeing it in its completed form.

    Stripped drive shaft nut....Grrrrr

Thoroughly agree guys, a second washer is NOT the answer, or filing the thread, it's a bodge, and could only end in tears. The only way is to replace the drive-shaft, which sounds a pain in the bum, but makes sense in the long run. I'm sorry you've had this problem Ade after asking for advice...

A GALLERY OF GORGEOUS - please contribute !

Sorry Jim, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because I reckon this abortion should be in A Gallery Of Gruesome

    Fossicking in the garage.

Hi folks, this grille has cleaned up quite well. The badge was glued on, but was easy to remove, and has now been attached with self-tappers, and some dents have also been fixed, ish. There weren't any fastenings, so I used some 3mm ali strip to fashion some, along with 5mm nuts and bolts. The...

Ronaldo the Renault 4 for sale

That's very odd John, I'm not sure what is happening there. How about position 1 on the switch, the one for the radio, which doesn't involve the ignition being on. I'd be surprised if your hazard unit was wired up originally like this.

Ronaldo the Renault 4 for sale

Of course they do, otherwise the ignition coil would soon fail without the engine running. That's the whole point of hazard lights when your car is stranded.

    r4f4 from Hungary

Hello Tamas, wow, quite a project, but as you've been there before I don't suppose you are daunted by it, and I'm sure it will end up beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

Hi Rusty, happy days indeed, so glad I was able to point you in the right direction. It's what this forum is all about. Regards Brian.

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

My apologies Rusty for giving you the wrong information earlier. The two restrictors in the emission set up are 1.3mm and 5mm. Regarding the flow of fuel, have you tried disconnecting the filter from the pump, and checking the flow while cranking the engine over? There maybe a blockage in the...

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

Hi Rusty, it sounds like you are on top of possible electrical problems, so as I suggested the leak test is next. The plastic tee piece is available from R-quatrelle.nl, as is the 1.5mm restrictor in the pipe from manifold to tee piece, and the 8mm one from rocker cover to tee piece. Great...

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

Hi there, I would say 130 PSI is quite acceptable, and if they are all around that, I wouldn't open that can of worms, well not just yet. Have you checked for any air leaks? Base of carb, and emission control pipes. The plastic tee-piece on the side of the carb can harden and split with age...

Torque setting Front drive shaft nut?

Hi Ade, half a turn before it shears off!! Only joking  I generally use a 24mm socket with a breaker- bar. If you are able to tighten the nut, which should be of the nyloc variety, with the wheel on the ground, all the better, and then it's as tight as you dare. Regards Brian.

    What a great everyday car!

Hi, my better half always takes her car, a Mazda Demio, to a garage for it's MOT and leaves it there for them to test at their leisure, which is ok I suppose, but I prefer to be in attendance at the test. The chap who tests my 4 is an old car enthusiast and gets me to assist him, and it means...

    Fossicking in the garage.

This grille has been languishing unloved for a while, but it's time has come. It will look beautiful on the little Fourgonette.
