    Rodeo Recommissioning

I collected the seats from the trimmer this morning and fitted them to the Rodeo. Started out for the first drive in 12 years then realised I hadn't fitted the UK number plates. Came back to fit the number plates and then went for a drive. It didn't go perfectly. One of the driveshafts is...

    Too rich

That's a really good point. The other not obvious thing for air leaks is the breather hose to the bottom of the carb came from the factory blocked with a plastic piece with a 1mm hole in the middle. I normally block that hose completely.

    What do these things do?

Here's what the owners manual says about heating controls. It also mentions flaps 6 which are the cold air flap vents on top of the dash.

    Too rich

Normally if you need to use the choke to keep the car running when warm it's going to be a blocked main jet. I don't remember if the photo is a Solex or a Zenith but in either case the main jet sits at the bottom of the float chamber. I think it's a Zenith. I had to pull the carburettor...

    Service parts recommendations for supply

For ordinary service parts there are a lot of motor factors selling on eBay. Autodoc has most bits but postage from Germany takes a few days.

    Here's Harvey!

Those repairs look really good. Rust above the rear wings is a pain and it's not often you see it done properly like that.

    Temp. Dash Light on

The temperature warning light would come on when it connects to ground. Either when the temperature sensor gets too hot or when the wire touches the exhaust manifold and shorts out. Does it go off after you start the car from cold? If so probably the sensor is working and maybe the...

    Reno 4 GTL battery

That one has the tab. Just the bit of plastic sticking out a bit at the bottom for the clamp to clamp on. A lot of them don't have it.

    Reno 4 GTL battery

I bought one of these for a GTL last year: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394338639478 The thing to be careful about is that is has the tab at the bottom for the mounting clamp.

1979 Renault 5 tl steering wheel change

What diameter wheel are you going for? For my TX with the standard 15 inch wheel I needed to add a spacer behind the steering wheel to make some room for my legs. My Gordini came with an aftermarket Intersport wheel. It's a bit small at 13 inches outside diameter but it does clear the legs...

I've ordered a new chassis for the F4 van!

MOT pass today. :) It turns out I have a big oil leak from either the oil filter or the sump gasket but everything else seems OK.

    R4 TL restauration

I just replaced a starter on a 747cc. All the Renault 4 747cc and 845cc engines turn the same way (clockwise when looking from the front of the car). In the rear engined Renaults the engine turned in the opposite direction. I got confused by the description of the starters as they never say...

I've ordered a new chassis for the F4 van!

I've booked the van in for an MOT so thought I had better drive it up and down the road to make sure it is capable of getting there. It worked fine up to 25mph but after that started to run badly and would die on throttle. Couldn't figure it out. The points are new and I checked the gap and...

    Can’t turn off engine :D

I've attached a wiring diagram for a 1979 car with your fusebox. It shows how the fusebox is connected internally. It should be a case of removing any wire in the fusebox that might provide the ignition wire with 12V when the ignition is off until the engine stops running. You might need...

Valve removal and availability of steel shims under valve spring

The normal sources for shims would be Melun, Franzose or Mecaparts. If they don't have then then probably finding someone with a used engine. Or an eBay search to see if any other cars have similar parts. I've not had trouble with removing the collets but the cylinder head shape is awkward...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

New ignition leads have cured the misfire at idle. The engine runs much better now and is much less sensitive to the choke. I think the old coil lead was the original and had failed causing a weak spark. That's a relief - I thought it might have been a valve. The new leads are the type of...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

It's been snowing this week. Not much happening on the cars but they are insured now and the Rodeo seats are at the trimmer. I've been servicing. The air filter is probably the dirtiest one I've ever seen. I wondered if it might have been the original but it was made by Tecnocar in Italy...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

Even more strange. The starter tested OK when removed. The mounting to the engine was very dirty and I wonder if it wasn't making a good earth. Cleaned it up and put the starter back in and it works! I can check things now. The new thermostat opens, the dynamo charges and the clutch...

    Rodeo Recommissioning

This is odd. The new starter worked perfectly for maybe 5 starts and now it just clicks and doesn't turn. Perhaps I should not buy parts because they are the cheapest. I guess remove it and test off the car before sending it back. Tried turning the flywheel to some new positions but...
