    Just a quick engine swap?

I reckon it probably was due to being assembled in Ireland, probably quite a different process buiIding a car up from a CKD kit. I remember a renault dealer telling me that they often used to run out of paint and went out and got the nearest they could find.

    Fancy carbs

I have been wondering 2what would be a good alternative carb to fit to my R1123 with the 845cc ventoux engine, particularly since I might fit a slightly warmer cam and a freer manifold. In the past i had a 4cv that I rebuilt with a dauphine gardini engine and that was most fine except the 32mm...

    Noise from front end/suspension ?

Malcolm is right, WD40 is not great for rubber. If you must spray something try:- 1. spray silicone lubricant as used on curtain runners etc 2. If you need something heavier to deaden light rattles put some brake rubber grease (doesn't harm rubber) into a syringe and squirt or smear some in...

    Upper wishbone bushes

F4s and R4L saloons with the "rough roads" option had the reinforced wishbones. Usually went with the thicker anti-roll bars and rear anti-roll bar. Depending on what country it was sold in you got it or didn't. Early 4s sold in Australia and various African countries got them, UK cars usually...

    Door seals glue

Try finding a local supplier for Wurth glues. They are a german brand of panelbeaters consumables, and do a black contact adhesive.

    Brake Pedal Adjustment

Two things to try: 1. make sure your handbrake works well and is well adjusted (if a car with front wheel handbrakes) and 2. Suggest you go to a brake place and get them power bled. Trying to bleed from scratch after taking system partly apart is notoriously problematic, get a power bleed done...

    1990 Gtl Engine problems

Could it be the dirt screen on the inlet to your carbie? I've had similar problems when it was blocked up- runs until float bowl empties, then stalls. Then slowly fills up bowl while cranking over, starts again, repeat etc. Also had similar when a garage jacked up the car under the fuel tank...

    Good garage

That's not cheating! At least not these days anyways. All the current manufacturers use those sorts of things on new car production, believe it or not. The current generation of thin wall castings and high temperature extremes have pretty much mandated it.

    Getting Historical Data

Got a very quick email reply from DVLA- apparently they can't look into it because I am not in the UK- if I was in the UK and the car was currently registered there to me, it would be a different story. However they did add there were no records for that reg. number in their possession, which...

    Getting Historical Data

Hi, I wonder if any of you can help... I have a late '67 (4 speed, full width grille) R1123, RHD that was sold new to the British market. It was bought new by a pair of doctors, driven around Britain and Europe for 6 months, then (I believe) put on a ship somewhere like Turkey and brought back...

    Rebuilt engine, cranks, wont start

Or, if we think this is what is going on, move the four outer (plug) ignition leads around on the dizzy by 180 degrees, which means swap each opposite pair of leads...

    Rebuilt engine, cranks, wont start

There's an even simpler way of checking- with No 1 cylinder supposedly at TDC remove the spark plug from no 1 cylinder and with ignition OFF, hold your thumb over it, then turn the engine over slowly either by turning the fanbelt pulley, fan hub, or having it in gear and pushing the car forward...

Need to stop students killing R4's

I think de Carbon are still de Carbon but they are owned by Delphi. The factory when I last visited is near Nice. They do the R4 de Carbon shocks in batches each year and they are very quickly sold out over the summer holidays when everyone gets a set and fixes their R4 over the holidays. People...

Need to stop students killing R4's

On the contrary, I would say.... A lot of wear and replacement parts simply wouldn't be in production if it wasn't for the trophy every year. A good example is the de Carbon shocks, another is driveshafts, the the list goes on- A solid market for spares, bought by people like youing engineering...

    Can anyone identify this part?

I seem to recall 4CVs had kingpins and grease lube, so not that. Also pretty sure the same with dauphine. It may be from an estafette????
