    Hello

Hi there. A chassis replacement is of course a big job, and by no means straight forward, so if you can avoid that so much the better. If you can get the car raised up so you can investigate all areas likely to be rusty, that would be good. It's great that you would like to save your 4, it is...

    4° Italian Renault 4 Festival 2025 - International Renault Classic Meeting - 19, 20 e 21 Settembre 2025

Pity you can't make it Lobster, you would love it. The next one will be in 2027. Just remember "carpe diem", I'll say no more about that.

    Hello

Hmm, that is quite a big job, and as you probably know, as soon as you start removing rusty metal, a job can get considerably bigger. Are there any other areas in a similar condition? The other side, and the front corners of the chassis? Sorry to be a prophet of doom, but Renault 4s aren't known...

    Hello

Hi there, welcome to the forum. I'm near you, I live in Falmouth and often visit Redruth, and know it well as I use to live there. It's hard to find a welder these days who understands Renault 4s, if you know what I mean, the term old school comes to mind. Let me have a think, and I'll get back...

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

No problem, I'm glad my input was of some use to you. Yes this setup is far from simple, and it can catch you out. It's often a case of trial and error. Very frustrating. Happy motoring in your 4. All the best Brian.

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

Hi there, excellent, it seems you have solved the problem. Sometimes we do over think things, I've been there. One question, did you jack up the front of the car using the tubular cross member, and then check the rear heights each side? If the rear heights are different it can make you think the...

Oil level - dip stick reading

Hi Martin, sorry, I wasn't trying to teach my granny how to suck eggs. As long as the oil level is somewhere around the full mark all will be fine I'm sure. Enjoy your 4. All the best Brian.

Oil level - dip stick reading

Hi Martin. Well, I've not heard that one before. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it off, replace it, pull it out again, and you should get a true reading. Over filling will not cause a leak from the sump, but it's not recommended.

    italia - scozia

After an epic drive all the way to Scotland, including driving on to John O' Groats, our intrepid trio drove to Cornwall. Pictured here in Falmouth, where friend Simon and I met up with them. A fantastic achievement Angelo, Massimo and Mario, true adventurers.

    Shock Absorbers

Hi Martin. I have KYB gas shockers on the back of my 85 GTL, I can thoroughly recommend them after 7 years of hard use, and I guess they do front one too. All the best Bry.

    Adjusting the clutch

Welcome to the forum. There needs to be about 3mm of play of the cable at the fork end, 1/8th of an inch in old money, so the release bearing just clears the pressure plate.

no spark.. changed everything related to the distribution/ignition and still not working!

Now I understand why you want originality, it makes sense I guess. Sorry I can't help with the problem you have, but you have come to the right place with members that have the knowledge, and I'm sure the problem will be resolved.

no spark.. changed everything related to the distribution/ignition and still not working!

Is that such a problem Gabriele? We are lucky in the UK, but I didn't realise changing a small part like the dizzy would upset the system in your country.

no spark.. changed everything related to the distribution/ignition and still not working!

Personally I would suggest you remove the distributor complete, along with the coil if its an old one, a bin them both. Next, invest in a good quality coil and a 123 electronic ignition distributor. Forget those crappy points and condensor and enjoy trouble free motoring. I know its not cheap...

how to fit an oil gauge ?

This was my solution for fitting an oil pressure gauge. A pressure sensor fitted on the bulkhead, with a small bore plastic pipe down to the engine block. There is provision for the oil pressure light sensor as well. This was obtained from Car Builder Solutions, a British company based in Kent.

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

Yes I think torsion bars can go weak over time with hard use, so you could be right. Finding a NOS one might not be so easy, but worth a try, but failing that maybe just trying a second hand one might do the trick. Happy birthday, and enjoy your run out in the TC, a great little car. I've had...

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

Kevin, can I suggest you strip the other side, leaving the bottom wishbone and torsion bar in situ and undisturbed. Now you can try the offending bar in various settings until the two wishbones look to be in the same position/angle. Remember, you do have fine adjustment if you move each end of...

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

It's not easy to explain how to do this, but you do have to move both ends the same number of splines. Remember 22 at one end and 21 the other, so you have fine adjustment. I would fit the bottom arm back on, and when you think you have correct height use a small scissor jack to raise it up for...

Oil Sump Capacity & Dip Stick length

Hello Martin. The dipstick on my GTL engine is 365mm long, and the tube is 185mm long. Hope this helps. Regards Bry.

Front O/S torsion bar adjustment. Update !

I made up this adjustable bar to take the place of the rear shock absorber, and to give fine adjustment. With regard to the front torsion bar adjustment you need to count the splines. 22 at one end and 21 at the other, and turn the bar CW or ACW to get the desired height. With both operations of...
