Hi again

Couldn't work out how to edit my previous msge so thought I'd do another one. I gather from thems what knows that I need to get only an R4 GTL axle for my car so,unfortunately that narrows the search down further.
I appear to be the only numpty to have an R4 that's swinging arm has snapped inside the rubber bush (unless there are more out there)! Unheard of, some say!
Please keep your peepers open for one. It's very frustrating planning to do stuff and drive places but, instead just look at the old dear and turn the engine over to keep it all going....
P.S. I live in East Sussex so, a huge drive to get one will be awkward.
Thanks guys

I have the same inner bush broken on my 1983 4GTL,
I have managed to heat up the inner ends in a vice and knock off the ends, then put the end in a press and push the bars out.
The bushes are on order with Franzose, then it will just be the task of fitting the outer ends in the same position as before refitting to the chassi to find the place for the inner ends to be pressed on.
I would think that i need the bushes to have no twist on the rubbers when the arms are at a position of rest.
Then i will fit some threaded bar in place of shocker and adjust the arms before i put the bars back in.
If the getting apart is a sign of things to come i could be in for a fight.

Whizzbang has a different problem. The outer part of the swinging arm that is pushed into the bush is actually broken away from the swinging arm. I have two new outer bushes and two new inner ones that are integral with the cast inner bracket. I have advised her that it would be more economical to buy a complete axle if one was available.

Otherwise she will need to find another swinging arm and rebuild the axle, but as you have stated, it is one of those jobs where both bushes have to be pressed on in the right position and you only get one go at it.

What a pain. I've got a complete axle but won't ship (because I'll never get around to it). It's not in great condition and will need new outer bushes but could be a fall back.
