Black smoke coming from the muffler

I all.
I have my renault 4 for 10 years now, today i went to the gas station to put some gasoline, and to put a little of oil in the engine.
Wen i leave the gas station after 10 minutes i saw some black smoke coming out of the muffler, i drove for more 5 minutes and the black smoke increases more and more to a point that i have to stop the car.
When i open the hood i notice that i have a lot of oil in the car engine (its beyond the max level).
Can someone help, have i lost my car, is the engine damage.

Hope the reply doesn't come too late. Did you check the engine oil level with the dipstick before adding oil? If you didn't then chances are there is too much oil in the engine. You just need to let some oil out of the drain plug until it goes down to the correct level and the engine should be OK.

All problems solved, it was too much oil in the engine (i check in a steeped street )(im a moron)
But everything is normal, i let some oil out and i triple check the dipstick.
No more black smoke
