Ok, I'm back again!

Some on Facebook might know I've been suffering with some issues which sadly has put my poor 1985 R4 GTL on the deep back burners, but summer is here and time is more free then it has been!

Got him out of the garage for some work almost 18 months after I got him back from the paintshop.

To be honest I am not 100% happy with their work when up close so avoid the paintshops in Bridgeport if I was you guys, I generally felt they did not care about getting my car back to factory, just out of their way.

I had a lead on buying new front ones but wondering if anyone has ever just made them? They just seem to be rubber straps which I have a bit left over from the new matts I made.

Easy stuff I know, I got most of the lights in, door locks on, dash in (needs to come back out and need to seal some bits and replace the bulbs with LEDS).

Does anyone have any tips for getting windows back in? Mainly the door ones?

The door check straps are made of 5mm thick fabric reinforced rubber, plain one as used on the floor mats won't do, it's too weak.
I have found this stuff here at rubber hardware shops, and while it's as strong as the original one, it's a little more stretchy. Another solution would be industrial braided belt, as fitted at the factory on pre-72 cars, if you don't care about the looks.

This braided belt sounds interesting
The rubber used to make the matts was, in fact, 5mm thick thus my comment on the idea.

Got about to installing windows today, think i'll have to do the doors windows again in the future and replace the rubber liners.

Hey guys, hope Covid-19 is treating you well, hasn't done me much favours to be honest as it locked up my Renault 4 50 miles away from me and when I got back into that garage a mouse had eaten my brand new front seats -_-

With thanks of the brains of Mister Reno I have managed to soldier on with tasks but I have too many projects again with my Saab 99 having complete electical shut down and running my motorbike into the ground over the last two years. Also bought a green laner for my stag do and then broke it...(fixed that now)

Some how I have managed to completely strip my little 1100cc engine for my 85 GTL, it was turning free but my poor storage choice has caused it to be full of gunk.
So how have you guys cleaned engines before putting them back together?

Also must replaces are good to know,
Thinking:-
Water pump
Oil pump
Fuel pump
electrical dizzy, removing the points system.

Timing chain?

I do have a complete gasket set with new clutch bought as a just encase many years ago

I have washed most of that gunk out now

I did a similar job with the actual engine I run under my car.
I disassembled all the engine, check it was good and put it back togheter after a deep clean with steam and degreasents.
Don't forget the liner bottom paper gaskets, it will be the most challenging part, as I remember and usually those don't come in engine gasket kits, you should check.

Hey ho.

Why do R4s have M7 threads?

Purple in memory of my sister who lost her life but loved this little car.

5j banded fits underneath okay too.

Guess what I hit my leg on today?

Nice purple color! SO alive!

Is that powdercoating or paint?

House of Kolours Kandy Purple Paint, left over from a 911 respray by the paint shop.

Want to do something about the bolts at the end, thinking some nice chrome dome hex key styles

Hey guys, long time, no post. Lot of mental and life problems, (funny how they go hand in hand)

Been on off trying to rebuild my R4's engine which I have hit too many speed bumps on.

The latest snag is that I finally got the pistons bolted back to the crankshaft but I have a 0.5mm side to side rock in Piston No3 but everything else is solid as a rock.

Anyone able to assist with me? The workshop manual says that that is okay for the little end, but says nothing about it for the Big end.

The madness carries on, how hard it is to put an engine together
