Hi everyone, I am looking to install a CD car radio in my 1962 Renault 4 along with speakers, and was hoping that this would be the place to find someone who could help me do it along with the cabling or if you have suggestions about places in the city where do such job. I am based in Dublin City Centre and would need it install by the end of June/early July. There is no radio holder in the car and not looking to install one, it would be a more DIY version.

Would love to try and do it myself but would need to find a step by step image guide to make sure I don't make a mistake in the cabling and all...

Most accessory shops sell a universal radio holder, which can be attached to the underside of the dash or to the front of the heater box. The radio/CD player would slot into this in a metal casing-it's not tricky. As to wiring it up, the aerial's the hardest bit, as this involves drilling a small hole, dependant on where you want it to go. I'd recommend just above the centre line of the windscreen, at the front of the roof. The speakers could be screwed to the panels in front of the front doors, under the dash and wiring them's not to tricky, but remember they're phased. The live feed needs to be fused and attached to the connection on the key that becomes live when the key's in the accessory position. This allows the radio to work when the engine's off and would stop the radio when the key's removed.

If you don't fancy tacking it yourself I'd ask proper "old school" garage to recommend a decent auto-electrician-it's their "bread and butter"!

Thanks so much André, I've had installed a radio in my last Peugeot 106 as it had a radio holder and was super straightforward, but this one I'd love to do it along with someone, just the phasing and all... or as you said asking around to old school garages might send me in the right direction :) cheers!
