I have a late 1000cc R4. I recently had all the symptoms of a head gasket failure, water in the oil, water useage, bubbling in the water resevoir etc, so took the head off. It was only 3thou from flat, so I fitted a new gasket, properly, et voila! I now have a chicken soup maker. Just 5 minutes of running and the new oil is an oil in water emulsion. Does anyone know, if the heads are prone to corrosive or cracking failue of the internal galleries, letting the 2 fluids mix, or any other reason for such symptoms?
thanks.

Broth!

I'm sorry that the head gasket did not solve the problem.

How was the old gasket that you replaced? Did it show signs of wear, leakage or damage?

It's likely that you will have to replace the liner seals as well if the head gasket didn't cure the problem.

David
